I recently graduated NP school (yay!!!!), and started my new job, which I adore (even better).
There's one little hitch....I can NOT get well!!!
First, I caught pneumonia, which was no small surprise. You diagnose 50 cases, you're BOUND to catch it, then I took sinusitis, and NOW, a month later, I have bronchitis. It just morphs, it has never gone away entirely. I'm beginning to wonder if my father is not right and I don't need to take the old 22-cent remedy. (That's a bullet, for all you non-country folks) I sound like a frog on helium, I hack constantly, I have had 2 rounds of shots, I'm on my second round of abx, I got sent home from work early, and I'm at my wit's end.
Question, no medical advice, but if I ever get well, short of wearing fallout gear to see patients, how can I keep well? What do y'all do? Vitamins? Is it bad respiratory-wise all over, or just in the South? I know down here, you get this mess, and it STAYS got. Thanks for reading.
angel sweetie, congratulations on getting your np!
you've worked so hard for it, and you're finally there.
great job.
now, if i know you, i am confident you are not getting enough rest.
you are a self-driven, motivated, relentless lady with only the highest of standards for yourself.
i know it's a part of your personality so i don't think that 'resting' will come easy to you.
all i am saying is if you did slow down, me thinks you'd see a drastic improvement in your health.
just saying...
you're the only one who can do this.
much love to you.
leslie
Your in a new environment with differing germs so catching everything. When I worked Resp/Telemetry unit, rarely sick. Got sent to cover Renal floor--severely sick after second week there.
Mucinex, Coldeeze, chicken noodle soup along with steaming bath lavender scented Epsom salts and liberal hand sanitizer will help.
Hey, leslie!!!!!!!! Thanks!!! And you know me way to well! I know I need to lay back, and I am trying, but I start BACK to school for my FNP January 7, so it'll be a short break. I'll be done with that in August, though, and then NO MORE, unless I get a wild hair and decide to get my DNP.
Thanks again for the congrats, it was such a relief to graduate. Now if I can just pass boards.....
I said I'd never go back and do anything else school-wise, I was so worn out, but as an ACNP (as soon as I pass boards), I cannot see kiddos or do women's health, and the doc I am working for does this. Well, circumstances have changed, and now we are to the point that I am going to have to be able to do these things, so I am going back. I love this job THAT MUCH! And I truly never thought I'd say that about a job.
congrats on your np!! get plenty of rest, do not try to do anything extra. take care of yourself and let everything else go. eat well, drink plenty of water esp at work. i keep 2 500 ml water bottles at my desk, plus the gallon size hand gel sanitizers. i try not to let patients sneeze or cough near me, so i look for the right time to do the heent examine, then i back away hoping to decrease my exposure. as for your sinusitis/bronchitis, you might need 3 week course of abx to kick it and don't forget a vira uri may take up to 3 weeks to get rid of. take care!!!! dress warmly:saint:

Good Luck
nutrition....rest......nutrition......rest......you get the picture............was reading on,I think, aol recently that most sinusitis clears on its own that ABT doesnt do much...a nettie pot would be helpful.....clear out all junk food...and be mindful of extra C.....and since you are taking ABT, i second the acidolphous. Also, if you can tolerate, a decongestant....some of us cant, lol
