I will post this as a poll. I will be voting yes, they should. Not only do I think it's common courtesy and a gentlemanly thing to do, but I think I have solid infection control rationale.

Think of it it. If a woman has to put down the seat before doing her business, she will be contaminating her hands, and then she has to wipe herself 'down there'. Maybe she is menstruating and has to perform an invasive procedure with a tampon.

On the other hand, men only have to aim and fire, maybe briefly touching the external part of their organ of urination. There is no chance of the men folk performing an invasive procedure.

I bring this up because it has become an issue in our workplace. Someone keeps leaving the seat up!

I think it is extremely rude when the toilet seat is left up. One male nurse I worked with would also pee all over the seat and not even wipe up his mess...

Clearly, its rude and gross to pee all over the seat and not clean it up.

But I still don't understand why its rude for guys to leave the seat up. Why on earth wouldn't you look before you sit? When I have to do number 2, I always look before I sit. Why can't you?

Maybe you're being rude when you leave the seat down, forcing me to lift it every time....

Just grab some toilet paper and lower it - no big deal...

Word.

I question some of these ladies' problem solving skills.

The problems of hygiene and courtesy could both be easily solved. Remove the seat. Most of the world's population squats to go without ever touching the seat. It preserves hygiene and eliminates the debate about courtesy. It also provides a nice little work out every day!

Oh yes, let's adopt practices from countries where goats have more value than women. That's an awesome step.

I do hope that the majority of readers and posters understand and can appreciate the tongue-in-cheek nature of my "suggestion". Red Kryptonite excluded I trust you all understand the humor in a bit of good natured hyperbole.

Default is seat down

Men sit sometimes too; women never stand

Gravity says it's easier to let the seat drop when finished urinating instead of a woman having to lift it :p

That being said...if I worked with all men I'd leave the seat up, honestly. Mostly cuz I wouldn't want people knowing when I used the bathroom, lol.

I don't expect men to lower the seat as long as they don't expect me to raise it. In my house I am currently outnumbered by male bathroom users. I would much rather they leave the seat up than pee it all over it. I use either a tissue or a toilet paper to lower the seat. Then if you are grossed out, wash your hands, then urinate. No biggie at all for me. It is all about mutual respect.

Men sit for #1?

HEALTHY men?

*mind is blown*
