Should I go for an ADN or do an LVN-BSN program?

U.S.A. California

I live in San Francisco and I current go to CCSF. Nursing is super impacted, so it's hard to get in. I believe CCSF does a lottery for students being accepted into the RN program. So what I'm thinking is maybe I could go to the LVN program here at CCSF and then apply for an LVN-RN bridge program somewhere. Has anyone done that? What schools near SF has a LVN-RN program?

And anyone know which community colleges DOESN'T have a lottery process? I really want to be an RN, but so many things are keeping me back. USF was my first choice, but when I talked to a counselor from USF and realized I would be borrowing over 100k in loans, I backed out. NOT worth it. So I decided to go for an ADN, but I found out that most CC's go by the lottery process. UGHH I don't know what to do. Any advice guys? I'm only 18 and on my second year of college, I know I have plenty of time since I'm still young, but I want to become an RN sooner than later.

Go straight to BSN. Your LVN experience coupled with a BSN will open many more doors in the bay area.

i believe that if you do have the opportunity to do LVN-BSN, that is a better option. You will have more door open than with a ADN.

Do you know of any LVN-BSN program in california?

I want to get my ADN. If not, could the LVN-RN bridge program be a better choice?

If at all possible that you can get a Bachelor's Degree, so much the better. If you wish to work in a hospital setting, BSN is what they asked for.

Hope it helps. A year clinical/acute experience is always required to land a job anywhere. As far as SF jobs, if you satisfy the above, I think you can find something.

I know Radiation Therapy has nothing to do with nursing, but whatever. I can't get my BSN straight away because right now, there are many things keeping me back: impacted schools, competitiveness, and tuition fees for private universities. So I'm going for my ADN. It's also highly impacted but I'm going to try anyways. Once I earn my ADN, I want to go to school again to earn my BSN. My other alternative is going for the LVN program first, work for a bit, then do an LVN-RN bridge program. Is that a better choice?

Anyone know any info about radiation therapy? Is it high in demand? The pre-reqs are pretty much the same, except RT has physics, which I'm not too bad at.

If at all possible, STAY AWAY FROM RECRUITERS. Buyer Beware.

Bad experience with deceptive recruiters, perhaps not all but a lot!

It seems that right now it's hard to get a job in the SF area with ANY nursing degree. I've been looking for 8 months, and my experience doesn't seem to be terribly unusual.

I am going to be starting the LPN to RN program at one of the best colleges in the area where hospitals literally fight over accepting their new grads even with a ADN. I would love to do the LPN-BSN but literally the ONLY school in a 50 mile radius that offers such a program is $25,000 a year. I have no desire for student loans so I am tacking the ADN route.

do the bsn, you cant go wrong. i am an adn, cant find a job and if i would have just went bsn from the darn beginning i be almost done now. i am going to enroll in the rn to bsn to try to get a job after i finish that. please dont do the adn.

Nursing homes will take you if you have experience. Job market is tough right now for nurses

I'm located in so-cal. I'm about to complete my LVN-RN bridge this semester and was very fortunate to get in. My personnel advice, go straight for your ADN and bridge to BSN. The programs are currently saturated with LVN applicants right now, and funding is terrible. Private LVN programs are expensive, the more affordable alternative is to get into ROP. The only bridge that will guarantee you entry a spot are very expensive as well (100+ K)

ADN programs just as impacted as the BSN. My best advice, keep trying. You have to be persistent. With the down economy everyone is going back to school. It's brutal out there, just have to keep trying. Good luck.
