Should I buy an NCLEX-RN practice book?

Published

I will be starting an LPN to RN program this Fall and was wondering your thoughts on if getting an NCLEX-RN practice book would be a good idea?

Also, if you think I should, which one would you reccommend and why?

Some may it's way too early for that, but I would expect some to say the sooner, the better ... getting used to the questions and refreshing myself ..

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Laura

Lots of people buy a review book and use it throughout their program. I would go to the bookstore and look for one that appeals to me. Saunders Comprehensive Review 4th edition is quite popular and the one most recommended to use to prepare for the NCLEX.

Thank you!

I will peruse the bookstore isles this weekend!

I really liked Saunders and bought mine online at Amazon. The chapters were helpful for studying for my school exams also. Good luck!

Hi there:wink2:

I am in the same boat as you, just starting out.I dont think it could hurt getting a book early and just glancing through.I got a few different manuals by different publishers at my library. So far Saunders and Mosby were most appealing to me.I didnt invest in buying any yet because I figured it may be 2 yrs before Im done and then I would probably want the newer 2011 version or whatever.Good luck to you!:D

I concur with the Saunders book. You can pick them up thru half.com, betterworldbooks.com, or amazon.com. Good luck!

Thank you all for replying!

I went to Barnes and Noble last night and looked through all the millions of NCLEX-RN books and the Saunders one was DEFINITELY the most "user-friendly." I really, really liked the format.

I did see that Kaplan and others had "2009" or "2010" versions, so it made me think twice, however, I think I will definitely swipe up one of the Saunders books for now and just periodically go through it.

Trying to give myself the best possible chance of succeeding RN school!

i used the saunders, i bought mine when school first started and used it as a study guide, gave me the extra edge, the tests on the cd that comes with the book are harder than the nclex, good luck!

I myself think you should invest in the kaplan NCLEX review book. It doesn't have a huge amount of questions but it has some really great test-taking strategies that I have been using since day one in school. It tells you how to answer the questions (or make a really good educated guess) even if you're clueless about the question. I definitely think you need a book like saunders or prentice hall too though. Check out the Kaplan book it's useful for nursing school exams.

I am not a student doing LVN-RN bridge program, but I was at the library a few days ago and found an NCLEX-RN book that I thought was really helpful. It was NCLEX-RN Made Incredibly Easy Questions & Answers (forgot the name of the author). It reviews all the different body systems and different types of nursing specialties and at the end of every chapter, it has questions and answers to review. I thought the book was very helpful and I was just looking through it. I plan on buying NCLEX-PN Made Incredibly Easy Questions & Answers because I think it would help me a lot once I start LVN school in July. I hope this helps. :D

Graduated in Dec,08 from a LPN-RN transition program. I used saunders throughout my whole time, was very helpful. To study for NCLEX, I used Kaplan (didn't really care to much fore it ) b/c we had to take a nclex review course but I guessed it work b/c I passed nclex with the mininum questions (75).

Saunders is on my list of required books...I got it at Boarders, with my Boarders reward card, for $30.
