  1. "you must have worked for 3 months as an RN in your first licensed state....Is this true?" not true, to an extent. I'm from SC got my license in GA by endorsement, without 3 mos of experience, about 6 mos ago. If you are a new grad, you are not required to have experience, make sure you make it clear on your application that you are a new grad. However, because GABON changes their regulations so often,it is best to call them and make sure this still applies.
  2. HI! jrw03282009, I understand fully what your saying...we are all nurses and have job to do...why keep separating us. In my class it was only 4 minorities, out of 30 nurses. I love my classmates and met some good friends, which I still keep in contact with. However, once you get out there to work, that's when reality kicks in and you notice there is a different vibe in the air. Many of the Caucasian nurses that I went to school with warn me about certain facilities and told me straight up don't even apply there, to save me from the hardship. Which is really sad and hurtful:o...I guess it's really hard to understand if you're not the one who has to deal with this. On the positive side, I have had some really good experiences and learn a lot about nursing as well as people. We all wish that everyone would be treated fair and equal but the reality is we are not. I know that everyone is not racist and most are just a little skeptical because this is not what they are "use to". So to overcome that, I make sure I build that trusting relationship to at least give them that "peace of mind" and most of the time it works...and eventually they see me as the nurse not just the black nurse.
  3. Hello, I'm a RN from SC. Currently working on my BSN, have two semesters left. Was a LPN and worked in public health, which I loved! Plan on going back into public health, once I finish my BSN. I'm AA and always get hit with the line "are you the cna". Which there is nothing wrong with being a cna, but most AA are stereotype in the health care field....plus the numerous of other issues that we have to deal with.
  4. GABON, they have different requirements for LPN & RN. I just go my RN last month, was a new qrad and they didn't required clinical/work hours,ONLY if you are a new grad. BUT, I got my license through SC first then I applied for endorsement through GA. When I got I finished with LPN school, back in 2006, I applied through GABON to take my license there because I was planning on moving to GA from SC. They denied me because my school clinical hours didn't match up with theirs. Soooo what I had to do to get around it is first take the nclex-pn through the state of SC, then after I passed, applied for endorsement throught GA and they accepted it and got my license throught GA. So if your are a new grad coming form any other states its best to apply through your home state first, then endorse through GA because if not you would have a hard time getting a license with them.
  5. Did you do a Nclex review study course? I think it might be helpful. I did Kaplan, I passed the Nclex on the first try with only 75 questions. I know Kaplan is a little pricey but I found it to be very helpful. F.Y.I, nope I don't work for Kaplan.
  6. :chuckleLOL, I had a long day, oops today is Tuesday...so yes you should give them a called tomorrow not next Monday. They are extremely slow compare to some states, so expect a long wait.
  7. Ladymarfee, I'm not sure of the exact time line when it comes to new grad, but give them a call Monday morning and I'm sure they will be able to tell you. I'm pretty sure the employment only applies if you only only been out of work or school for at least 3 or more years, but don't quote me on it. I graduated in Dec. 08. I applied for my license end of June and just received it this month (Aug). Good luck on the job search in GA, i've heard it's not good either. When I was a LPN i worked in health department in GA and love it. I left on good terms so i'm hoping to get back there, miss the 8 hour schedule, weekends and holidays off. Also good luck with GABON they are a very thorough and slow, so double check your application before you send it.
  8. Yes, I got my license without indicating work experience by Endorsement. I was confused about that part to because I thought I needed to work in order to get a license in GA but it's a misunderstanding due mostly to how they word it on the application. Complete your background check(fingerprinting thru GAPS) I live in SC so I drove to GA because it is much easier to go thru their system then trying to do the fingerprinting cards. Apply and pay fee thru Nursys (if your state does it) for nurse license verification. Send in official copy of school transcript, application fee, and picture. On application form where it asked about employment fill out section I ( name, address, etc.) and put recent graduate nurse where it asked about employment.
  9. If you are a new grad, you don't need work experience to apply for license by endorsement for GA, as long as it's within the past 3 years I think?? I believe that's the time window. I graduated in Dec. 08 no work experience as a RN at all and I just got my licensed, just leave that part blank on your application. Also Georgia doesn't issue temp license and the earlier you apply the better. It took 7 weeks for me to get my licensed. If you call they would explain to you what exactly you need to do.
  10. Sorry to hear that Nursekrn:(, that really sucks and I hope things works out for the best. I checked today at 530pm and I finally got my license. Hopefully things would turn around and you would have yours at least by the end of this week, Good luck...keep me posted.
  11. NurseKrn, No I didn't receive my license. I checked online nothing has been updated. I will call on Wednesday, if it's not up yet, but not sure if that's going to help with anything. I'm assuming you haven't got yours yet either, please keep me posted.
  12. Well I begin this fall, the Accelerated route, I have my ADN. I haven't heard anything good or bad about the BSN program but I guess I'll be finding out soon.
  13. Well friday, 21st Aug. is my 25th business day after the application has been posted and nothing has been updated everything still says pending, except my application fee. I was looking forward to at least getting it by friday, but I guess since you haven't got yours (NurseKrn), I won't be either. :angryfire
  14. Thanks for the responses.Well I've finally have my application logged in the system,as of the 17th,...but application still haven't been processed yet. Hopefully, things would speed up.
  15. i was just wondering if anyone has got there rn license transfer to georgia, by endorsement, recently. how long did they take to issue you a license? on the application it states 15 business day but i called gabon, and they said, 15 days to process and up to an 30 additional days to get license issued. i was hoping it wouldn't take this long and that there are people out there who had shorter wait times.
