Shortage Time From UK-USA

Published

Thought I would start a new thread. I want to know what is the shortest time that any RN has taken to emigrate from UK to the USA? And there are a few of us on here who are starting off or who are on the long road and some nearing the end, and it would be nice to get an average length of time.

For the record most of you know I am going via an agency (cause I didnt find this web site til after I took nclex)

I joined the agency 1st August 2004.

I took my NCLEX 17th january 2005,

Visa screen approved end April 2005

Medical 29th October

Interview US embassy 16th November 2005

Arrived in US 1st Dec 2005

My papers were filed for visa screen and green card last day of January 2005.

It would also help others who are following in our footsteps :balloons:

Sorry to hear that things are not to good with your back, hope you get sorted out soon. Is your husband working? :o

Yes he is working, or we'd be in deep **it. He works for himself and has done well so far.

My advice is to build up your credit history as soon as you can, we have been perfect residents now for 8 months and we still have no credit history. I can get a contract phone now without a large deposit so I must have a little bit of a credit history. So maybe just maybe I will get cheaper car insurance soon lol. We asked the bank for a small business loan, and the answer was no we have to have a two year credit history or $15000 perm in the bank, I said we wouldnt need a small loan if we had $15000 in the bank. We came into the country with money but since the car accident we have had to pay thousands in medical expences:madface: . So we have 17 months to go and we may get a loan-so not long now he he.:lol2:

I'm glad you are still able to eat, LOL. If you are unable to work for a long time will OGP make you pay them for your green cards?

I have seen so much negative input on this site about OGP I am glad I am not using them. Though I did go to one of their presentations when I first thought about going to the US, long before I found this web site. There was just something about them that made me think it was all about THEM & the money they could make from us, that's why I did not go with them. Phew lucky escape:lol2:

Mind you your case is unusual & I am sure there must be people who are quite happy with OGP:uhoh3:

Keep well

To Date:

June 06: Applied to take the cgfns programme, paid for by visa.

July 06: Started studying, realised I don't need to take cgfns exam for MA state. Have emailed CGFNS to ask for CES instead and hopefully not have to pay the full whack! (i know i should have checked it all out before!) Currently taking NCLEX questions and studying the medications.

I don't think my course will pass the CES requirments as don't have any obstetrics so trying to organise it so have it ready to start if I don't pass the CES requirments. Also emailed the professional credential service to see which CES certification they want, the health care professional or full education, once I have both of those I can apply for NCLEX.

Is there anything else i could be doing in the mean time to help speed up emigration? like form filling? I'm not doing it through an agency so anyone got any advice for finding an employer to file L-140? and will I need NCLEX before I do that? Also I will be bring my 2 year old son with me (My partner is already living and working in the states but even if we got married my little boy can't go on his visa as he's not his biological father) is there anything I need to start now for him?

until you have passed either CGFNS exam or NCLEX you can't do anything for immigration. Your employer needs to file the paperwork. To find an employer you need to contact hospitals local to where you want to live and see if they are willing to petition you for your greencard. Your son will go over on your GC but you my need something from biological father agreeing to you removing his son from the UK and I think even if you get married your son can still go over with you.

Thanks for the info. My university seem to be taking forever to send out paper work, they said its the time of year. The guy also said he will send out standard transcirpts first and if they need anymore info they can ask for it and it won't cost me anymore, felt like telling him that its not the finacial cost its the time cost!!! I asked for him to send them 10 weeks ago he said it would take 6 but he'd try and get them sent out in 2 weeks and they're still not there!

Patients is not a good trait of mine. I'm only at the start and missing my significant other so so much, he's just changed rotation (on a residency programme) and this one is going to be far more time consuming than the last one so phonecalls and contact won't be as much as we've had to date which is making him and me more inpatient just to get there. I wish we knew exactly how long it's all going to take so we had a date to focus on but reading everyones posts it could be anything from 9 months to years! I'm doing it on my own at the moment but don't know if i'd be better off with an agency and don't know where to go for that as there are so many and need one that will place me in Boston with my significant other, I couldn't manage having my son and I too far away, to be able to manage with both of us working and a son we need to be together.

Sorry about the rant!! and I know it's just the begining its just so frustrating when you know you've such a long way to go and the people you rely to get you there in the shortest time possible such as the university transcripts dept just led you down the garden path!! :angryfire

My university took a ridiculous 14 weeks to send out my transcripts & then they'd made a mistake & had to correct it. Mind you I went up in person to get the corrected copy, checked it before I got them to sign & seal it, then Fed-Ex'd it myself!

Taking N-CLEX tomorrow having waited 7 weeks for eligibilty & another 4 for the ATT.

I'm with Adevia at the moment who I really, really can't fault - they've chased, harried, called & emailed on my behalf constantly. I know agency is a swear word on this site but I'm really happy with them so far. They have even said that should I decide to go it alone in the end that would be my decision even though they have invested a lot of time on my behalf so far!

I have a named person who I always speak to & she's really great.

I wanted to be the person with the shortest time but my Uni has put paid to that! However, hopefully we will be out in the USA by the summer of next year - anything quicker will be a bonus!

Good luck with Nclex tomorrow, just be positive! I'm also with Adevia and have found them to good so far. Flying out to Connecticut on 29th Sept!!

I wish you all the best for tomorrow and if you need support whilst waiting for results, come back an line and talk. You will feel good when you leave the centre then you will have doubts-remember this is normal, and we have been through it and can support you.

good luck with the nclex

which board of nursing is it with?

i was with new mexico and got my results 2 days after which i thought was pretty good.

its not a nice feeling walking out of the test centre you do have doubts about how you did, but as madwife says this is the ideal place to come a chat about it

I also started with Adevia and I am the first to agree they are wonderful and really supported me all the way. (I paid for every thing myself)

Went out to FL on holiday and went to the company they use there and had an interview (last Oct). My husband did not like the contract $18,000 to get out if we pulled out within 2 years. I found a hospital that wanted to take me on direct and BOY were they upset. (very unpeasant to me and my husband on the phone) but I was told like you it would not be a problem.

I have heard of a few problems the other side of the pond. I am not for one min saying do not go with them but just read the small print and be very careful.

Bye the way very best of luck I am sure you will be fine.
