Shoes Blues.....

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Okay, I've spent hundreds of dollars trying new shoes to get me through three 12 hour shifts in a row. What are your favorites?

When I was younger, I wore any kind of running shoe. They had a good sole for alow of walking and some running, as well as good supports. They also breathed, so feet did not hold on to any odor.

As I got older, my feet did too, and I looked elsewhere for better shoes. I finally tried Danskos and love them. I'd wear them everyday if I could. You just need to learn to walk in them, as they are built sort of like a ski boot, with your foot pointed slightly down. You can order them online at a variety of places and save alot of $$ doing that, instead of buying htem locally.

I tried the crocs...didn't work for me. Tried regular tennis shoes....but they didn't provide enough support for a entire 12 hr shift.

I own a pair of standing comfort shoes...they are made with recycled material..and the most comfortable pair that I own...I can stand for the entire shift, and still be a-ok to walk out the door when it's time to go....

Be careful about ordering Danskos online; they are handmade and the sizes are not standard American sizing (European, I think). I recommend trying them on in a store to verify your size and comfort, and then ordering online w/a company that has a good return policy if the pair you end up with doesn't fit right. Also, Danskos have a hard sole that takes some getting used to; very cushiony socks are a good buy to go with them. When you get used to the soles these shoes are the best I've found.

Can you tell me more about the recycled comfort standing shoe? Where can I find more info- sounds interesting!

Thanks!

Did anyone ever try wearing the z-coil shoes?

I've seen a lot of posts from Nike X-coil wearers. Some wear by them.

All I can wear on the floor are Birks.

One of the techs at work has a pair. Really funny looking, but she swears by them and states nothing gets tangled in them and that they don't tip. But you have to go be fitted for them by a trained technician. Their website has a good list of distributors and pics of the whole line of them.

There are also covers you can buy to go over the coils on some models of the shoes, but not all.

I tried the z-coils and they were very odd at first. I felt like I was walking on my tip-toes and very bouncy. They ended up not being for me, and I returned them for a refund minus a restocking fee.

Z-coil shoes are very expensive, around $200.
