Hi everyone,
I just applied to Sharp's New Grad Residency Winter 2010/2011. *Fingers, Toes, and Eyes crossed that we get interviews*
Just wondering if anyone else had some trouble with the online application process. I completed the online application, and SAVED it; however, I noticed that if I wanted to review my entries by clicking on "Online Application," all entries were blank. I also wish that we could view uploaded documents (cover letters and transcript) just so I know that they really do have it on file.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing about any progress with this residency.
Yeah i dont think junk was the greatest term. I feel like when i graduate i know as much as any new grad. We all have to take the same license exam. I am already applying for an RN-BSN program to show i am not just stopping with the ADN. It really does come down to who you know though, that is how i got a job at sharp to begin with.

I dont think I am junk either but I was saying that employers think we are junk. You were lucky to know someone to get your job thats different. For someone with no connections and a ADN it is difficult.

For the record, I did not "know someone" to land my new grad position. I was hired on my own merit and accomplishments.
Thank you MrsED for still allowing me to hope hehehe...even though Grossmont ED will only hire 4 new grads =)L
If you're really interested in working in the ED, you may consider taking the Emergency Department Nursing Certificate Course through UCSD Extension. There are no guarantees that it will get you a job, but having that certification would certainly set you apart from other candidates. I paid out of pocket for extra classes and certifications that applied to my specific specialty and, even though it was pricey, it was the best money I ever spent. Good luck!

I understand you worked hard for your position and I am sure you are great. But I remember seeing in another post you didnt have to interview for your position and that the manager created a job for you. sounds like you knew someone. Im not trying to bash you or anything but you did have an in.
Hola!
I talked to one of the hiring managers at Sharp and she said there were over 1700 applications this time around. I applied for the Mesa Vista and Adult Health programs. Haven't heard anything yet but was wondering if anyone else has gotten a phone call about those units? I feel like I send my application out into a black hole when applying here in San Diego :)

I'm not sure to which post you're referring, but I certainly DID have to interview for my new grad position (2 interviews in fact), and I did not previously know a single person within in my department, much less the hospital. Perhaps you're referring to a post that is in reference to my previous job with a different Sharp entity.

I don't consider myself "junk", thankyouverymuch!
Everyone I know who's landed new grad positions, whether ADN or BSN, has sought out other opportunities and taken extra classes that would make them stand out among other applicants. And I think a big part of it is timing as well. I like the saying, "luck is preperation meets opportunity".
