Share your 1st day of class experiences

As a pre-nursing student, I would love to hear what your 1st day of class was like. Please share your experiences with us newbies! :)

Specializes in Emergency Department, Pediatrics, Home Health.

First day of pre-req's or first day of nursing school?

We had a calculations test within the first hour. If you didn't pass it, that was your first strike. People who didn't pass the second time had a very short "nursing school" experience because they were kicked out-at least for the semester.

That's what I remember the most.

I was actually really happy because it suddenly felt real. Everything I had worked for prior to getting in was all worth it.

I found out rather quickly that nursing school was different from A&P, microbiolgy. In fact no one should use the word pre nursing to describe prerequisites because that's far from the truth...haha

I felt unprepared and I hoped no one would notice.

Oh wow! I hope they taught you something about calculations first before the test! Yikes!

I'm guessing you weren't the only one that felt that way!

Oh my gosh, that sounds terrifying. I hope that doesn't happen on my first day lol

Our first day was really fun. We had a lecture for a few hours - it went over basic care like bed making, hand hygiene, general safety. Then we had a lab where we learned how to do blood glucose measurements, restraint use and donning/doffing ppe. I really enjoyed my first day/week.

First day, introduction from instructor, then all had to introduce themselves, what we did for living, why nursing & what area of nursing we want to go into. That part was interesting. We had diverse age group from 19 to late 50's, responses varied greatly. Syllabus/schedules, expectations (aka what will get you failed, kicked out of nursing school/clinical & general what not to do), then right into lecture for the next couple hours. We covered about 2-3 chapters the first day, one was like basic history of nursing & then fundamentals. Told we'd have our first exam in two weeks. Looking back now seems easy, at the moment I felt it was fast paced.

I just finished my first year and I don't remember much. :shy: All I can remember is that we introduced ourselves to each other and that we just started the lessons after that. Oh wait, we got some handouts and outlines but nothing overly exciting. Didn't stop me from being enthusiastic though!:)

My 1st day of nursing school consisted of nothing but ADPIE and the importance of nursing diagnoses....yay.
