Sequence of Science classes

Anatomy will definitely help you when get to like immunity and what not but I do not really think you have to take a bio class before mico- I think anatomy is more useful to have before micro. My school recommends that you take a chemistry class before micro-- I barely used chem in micro.... The bio in micro is pretty basic--like transcription, translation, protein synthesis, DNA vs. RNA and etc... I think you should be able to do micro easily without the bio class.

Since you mentioned the Chem before Micro, I have to tell you that I saw that was recommended also. When I went to an open house at the Community College, the speaker for the program said even though its recommended you can do it without taking Chem. So I am trying to plan out these science classes since I am just beginning.

You actually need a little chem...not so much biology, but having biology helps because you guys will be talking about prokaroyote vs eukaryote structures; dna replication; protein synthesis; etc..and you cover all of that in bio

My university will not let me take micro. without having bio. and chem.

I also am a student at TCC! I took Human Bio last year. This fall I'm taking A&P1 and hopefully A&P2 in the spring. My plan is to take the intro to college Chemistry next summer because it's been so long since I took HS chem. Then I plan on taking both chemistry classes next year. I am going to take the micro after I take all those. I don't know if that's the correct order though. It seemed to make the most sense to me that way. I'm taking A&P at the Chesapeake campus in the evenings this semester.

I agree, chem is more helpful than biology, I havent taken biology since high school, but I'd be a little lost without having taken chem

I'm taking A&PI this upcoming fall WITHOUT the BIO. In one of my threads, majority of the respondents supported the idea of not taking BIO because not too much of the material was recovered in A&PI. I'll be pairing chemistry next year with A&PII during the spring as well. Does anyone know if more chemistry is needed in A&PI or A&PII? The latter should be more about physiology and function so a strong foundation of basic chemistry is should ensure success in that course, right?

I am worried about taking A & P I & II without regular Biology ( only Human biology, Bio 100) or Chem. if you look at curriculum sheets College Chem comes after all the Biology including Mirco

BeachRobyn, I heard there was an excellent teacher at the Chesapeake campus Mattos Or something like that, But it is hard to get the class because it fills quickly.

Depends on your professor's penchant for the subject and of course your motivation to do well. That said, I took A&P 1 without Gen bio and got an A, and I am finishing up A&P 2 now, so far I am holding on to an A as well. My school does not require any prereqs for micro, though it does list the basic English comp class as a coreq (???) which I assume most people would have done before jumping into micro. I am taking micro next spring and I am a little apprehensive about it due to all those crazy bacteria names, but I am going to hold strong!!

I just want to have the strongest background possible. My professor from Human Anatomy said the more science background you have the better you should do. But you can do it with just the Human Anatomy to A/P I & II then on to Micro if you are a studier and researcher. If an area comes up that you are not familiar with you may have to do research to understand it. She said some students come in with having had all the courses and can't remember what they learned anyway.
