Senator John Kerry (Democratic Prez Candidate)

Published

How many of you have plans to vote for John Kerry at this point and why?

I am currently listening to him talk about what he would or wouldn't do to a group of people in the state of Iowa, and he sounds impressive. He knows foreign policy because he has served in the military himself, so that much I like about him.

Care to share? :)

While Dean has supported nurses in Vermont and is a proponent of nursing unions and promoting better working conditions, I am concerned that his career as a physician will inevitably create a conflict of interest. He ultimately will support the AMA (IMO) if there is an issue that physicians and nurses are divided upon, or if the AMA is supporting the AHA (American Hospital Assoc) to simply protect themselves. That conflict does not exist with Kerry and he involved himself in labour disputes to support Massachusetts nurses and create resolutions.

I dont trust that doctor-politician any more than I trust the other one - Senator Frist - the heir to HCA For-Profit healthcare corp & its mega millions. Who's interests will they be aligned with first? Other physicians, the big-money healthcare, hospital corp, pharmaceutical and medical associations.... or the nurses who are constantly trying to fight all of them to put pts before profits?

Dean may be saying things nurses want to hear - but he also changed his style of clothing in Iowa to one that he thought might get more votes from those people. When it comes right down to it - who are the doctor-politicians going to bow to? The American Medical Assoc or the American NURSES Assoc? Physicians, hospitals, and pharmaceuticals who are spending lots of money on them ---- or nurses??? I think their own self-interests (and owed favors) would direct their action.

Another thing - You have to search Dean's website & browse thru his Healthcare pages to find anything he may have said about nurses. The other candidates dont discuss nursing as an issue on their websites at all. By contrast, Kerry has "NURSES" listed as an issue itself right on his home page -- not buried somewhere in the Healthcare pages. To me that reflects the level of priority each will or will not give us.

Kerry has a proven record of fighting for the nurses side. There is no medical conflict-of-interest baggage with him. That alone would get him my vote.

DEAN<....he is the doc who having a temper tantrum in nurse station throwing charts.>

Do you think nurses who have experienced this kind of abuse from this man would speak up to the newspapers about that??? lol. Doubt it. But after seeing his raving lunatic screeching on losing in the Iowa causcus, I can just imagine what his temper tantrum at the nurses station must have been like. Even scarier - imagine if HE was the guy in DC with his finger on the "red button". We'd probably all be blown to bits by now.

Isn't it amazing that one incident can turn the tide in the primaries??

I like Kerry too...Lieberman better....and although I am quite conservative, I am so appalled at the pushing of this overtime law and the catering to illegals I am really reconsidering my vote for Bush. My husband can't believe I am saying that. ;)

My husband asked me to buy him Bush Chaney bumper sticker and coffee mug because he liked my Kerry for President nightshirt. Just order them on the internet........

what does this tell us?

I've liked Kerry from the beginning because he had the most presidential demeanor, and I thought that alone might make him a more viable candidate than some of the others. When it comes right down to it, I will support whomever (whoever?) looks like he can beat Bush.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I will support the democratic candidate who has the best shot at winning. As long as Bush is out the door, I don't mind.

On a side note, I really like Wes Clark. I don't think he's as pro-nursing as Kerry, but Clark has potential. Just my 0.02 cents worth.

After 20 years in ER, I believed that Dean has the most first hand experience with the health care crisis.

Then, on another thread a nurse spoke up about a big AMA politico physician who spelled out the AMA plan. The doctor said that the AMA plans to make every hospital part of a national HMO. Once they have a vitual monopoly, the doctors will have a death grip on nurse's salaries. The doctor reportedly said that they will control costs by to paying RNs $12.00/hr.

If you doubt that this could happen, look at the disparity in nurse's vs. physicians salaries. In 1950 the average doctor made 3 times what the average nurse made. In 1970 they earned five times what nurses did. Look at the difference between the amount of monitoring and interventions nurses were "delegated" over that same period. I shudder to think about that disparity today.

Barbpick,

Will your husband still be sporting his Bush-Cheney bumper sticker when he has to pick you up from work when you have been mandated, (at straight pay, thanks to Bush), because you can no longer afford to have your own car? Give the man a couple of bucks to go buy a clue! :roll

I planned to sit out this election year. After all NOBODY can stop Junior. Then I listened to Al Franken on cSpan. I expected to hear just another Dennis Miller type tirade, but was surprised to hear that Franken really does offer some solutions. During the Q&A he was asked, "Do you think that ANY Democrat would be better than ANY Republican." Franken was great (I need to remind myself that he IS a professional entertainer). He scratched his head for nearly a full minute, (considering each and every candidate) and then said, "Yes, any Democrat would be better than any Repubican."

Ever since that moment I have LISTENED to the candidates to hear from their own mouths what they say.

I must say, I would have no problem voting for any of them. I am praying that we wind up with a winning ticket.:kiss

As I mentioned on another thread today, I heard John Kerry's wife speak on a political channel and really enjoyed hearing her speak. She is humble, compassionate, caring, seems very intelligent and knowledgeable about foreign and domestic issues; speaks five languages, was born in Mozambique, is a mother and grandmother, was formerly married to Senator Heinz who died in 1991 (1992) so has a lot of political exposure and experience under her own hat, and gives millions to many charity organizations from her own families wealth. She is big on environmental issues also.

It's easy for me to see John Kerry and his family in the White House, and lead our country for the next four years. So far....they are my favorite couple. :)

They seem so mellow and down to earth, yet completely capable of shining in any area that may be on the table for discussion.

Although I have always always always voted Republican, I can't ignore some of Bush's atrocities while in office, and find myself no longer leaning towards a political party but the man and his family who most represent what I can live with as a U.S. citizen, woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse. :)

Thank you for putting words to how I feel. Even though John Kerry was born in a financially comfortable family who paid for his college, after graduation, he has spent his entire life in public service. He is from the "Forbes" family, himself.

I have no problem with his protesting the war in Viet Nam, he served there first.

Again thanks for the words I cound not find.

Barbara

Kerry was the projected winner of the Democratic primaries from the beginning...looks like the prediction rings true. I like the guy and wish him well.
