Seminole State/UCF BSN Concurrent Program- Fall 2011

Published

Hi! Just starting a thread for all students applying to the SSC/UCF BSN concurrent program for Fall 2011. Best of luck to you all!

Hey all!

I'm new but I have been following you guys since the beginning. Congrats to all! :) I've also been accepted and was sooo excited to start until I got that email. Yikes. But I will be living around the UCF area and commuting to Seminole everyday. I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat? It would be great if a few of us could carpool since we will all be in the same classes (at least I think we all be taking the same classes at the same times, right??) Anyways, it would really be a lot easier and cheaper. So just let me know if you go to UCF and will be commuting to Seminole. Thanks guys! Can't wait to meet all of you.

Welcome SydneyRae! Congrats on your acceptance!:yeah:

That email was crazy...I thought it was a little mean honestly. YES, we all know it's going to be hard. But don't try to scare us out of doing a limited access program when there is a nursing shortage to begin with.

As for the forms...we turn all those into the school in person, right? We just have to email her those 4 letters from the Keirsey test? Also, for the loan agreement, she said for the "projected term of completion", to put fall 2012, but isn't it fall 2013?

Also...I just got an email from UCF saying it's not too late to register for fall and to register now to avoid a $100 fee. Are we supposed to sign up for our nursing classes there now? Or do we wait till they tell us to?

Thanks!

Just curious....did anyone else get their email from D.D @ UCF with all the forms attached? Wow! Needless to say, I was like oh my word...they mean business. I'm kinda scared of the program now! I will work very hard and just give it my all and hope for the best. That's all we can do.

Jacksonleo I know you have already given us some advice, but I'm sure you know the email that I speak of..is it really as bad as they make it seem???? Don't get me wrong, I'm not nieve enough to think it will be a piece of cake, but are they just putting fear in us to make us come in dedicated and motivated from day 1 or is it really as difficult as they make it sound?

Thanks!!

Coffeecrazy... I hope you realize that the nursing shortage is a bit of a myth nowadays especially in certain areas... there are hundreds of people waiting to get into nursing schools but not hundreds of jobs awaiting them upon graduation...

wannabnurse... It's hard for me to say what I really want to say in a public forum but YES, I do remember that email... actually, we still get some of those once in a while and the author seems to love sending them. I also think they are a bit inappropriate... :).

Is nursing school hard???? YES!!!

Is it the hardest thing you will ever do??? NO!!!!!

Can you do well???? HECK YES!!! Remember though that the people sitting in those classrooms are really the best of the applicants - give or take a few - and that most of us had to be A students in order to get to this point. I know you had some exchange about GPAs not long ago when you were waiting to hear about your acceptance, right? Well, let's just say that the majority of the students do not remain A students during the first semester of this program. As a matter of fact, I think we lost close to 20 in the first semester; some dropped out for different reasons but most failed. There is really no trick to it, just treat it seriously and just do what works for you. I just do what I feel is right for me regardless of what I am told to do and I am doing very well. The other people that are also doing well in my group have the same attitude. For example, at the start of the term, the professors emphasized how important it was to join study groups to the point where it felt like pressure. Well, that is great if it works for you but if it doesn't, don't do it! And if you are going to join a study group, then make sure you are studying with the people that are getting the As. It cracks me up to see several people who are struggling to make a C studying together (which is normally how it ends up working). Anyway, you get my point. If you want to be successful, you have to hang out with the successful.. Plain and simple.

Anyway, I could go on forever but hopefully this helps a bit...

What happens if you fail a class? Can you retake it or do they kick you out of the program?

What happens if you fail a class? Can you retake it or do they kick you out of the program?

You can retake it ONCE, then you are done! Let me rephrase that... You can only retake one class/semester. Meaning.. you fail, you wait for the next session to begin and if there is room, they accomodate you. You fail the second time/second class, you are done!! There are actually 4 of 5 people joining our group this semester that failed Med/Surg last semester. They are the lucky ones because we followed right behind them. I mean, they started in the fall and we started in January so they didn't have to sit out for a whole semester to retake a class. Whomever failed our class in the Spring will have to wait or sit around the Summer semester and join you guys in the fall. Ouch!

What is the Keirsey test? I never got anything regarding that.

Haha! I like how she discourages us asking questions...oh goodness...I see how the email could help weed out the slackers, but I do feel its a little inappropriate. Study groups sound like a good idea though. I know I was okay studying by myself for microbio, but I think I could have benefited from a group or at least partner to study with for physiology. It was just a lot of info to cover!

I am concerned however about my son. I have a two year old and I am just worried if he is going to be okay. I have a babysitter, shes great, but I just hope he will do okay without me around as much. :crying2: Or maybe I will miss him more than he will miss me?!

Is anyone besides me getting fingerprinting done on Tuesday the 24th at 9:30???

I just read that email in full and I must say honestly that I to thought it was a little inappropiate. I appreciate her honesty, but there is a professional way to go about things and that was not one of them. And I was always told that the only stupid question is one that is unasked, therefore if I have a question I am going to ask it no matter how stupid she thinks it is.

At the bottom of the email it lists the electives that could possibly be used for nursing electives and one says HEALTH CARE ETHICS (HSC 4653). I was looking for this course in the ucf catalog and I cant seem to find it. I found HEALTHCARE LAW AND ETHICS (HSC 4652), does anyone know if that is the same course?

Does anyone plan on working at least part time while in the program?

@Jacksonleo: do u think that would be possible?

@wannabnurs...

The Keirsey test was sent as an attachment, it's 4 pages and it's like a personality test. At the end on the back page you add up how many of each letter you got in a bunch of little boxes and you end up with a 4-letter score that you have to send to her. I guess it's to begin our "cohort development" skills. Lol.

hey Ladies I'm extremely excited for all you guys and for those who didn't get in keep the faith, dont give up and believe in yourself because you work hard
