Hi! Just starting a thread for all students applying to the SSC/UCF BSN concurrent program for Fall 2011. Best of luck to you all!
Hello - Question for those of you that are in the nursing program right now..I'm lurking on the forums, waiting to apply this Fall to the A.S. Nursing program. I'm curious, what is your weekly class schedule like? In the information sessions they're vague.. "Could be from 8 am to 8 pm, 3-6 days a week..." Does your schedule change fairly often? I need to work while in school and wondering if I need to change jobs .. Thanks!
You are going to have to be very flexible because every semester the schedule is different. They don't tell you the exact schedule because it depends on many factors, including professors availability, classroom availability, clinical facility availability, etc. As an example, we are in the evening program (which they won't offer anymore) and we have had many, many classes/labs scheduled in the morning or early afternoon. You will definitely be busy (in class) anywhere from 3-6 days a week with some semesters being easier than others but just know that the attitude from the school/professors is that nursing school is your life and the priority so expect no emphathy whatsoever. Everything else will come second. Just grin and bear it for 20 months, then you are an RN!
Thank you jacksonleo! That helps!guess I need to look for a flexible night job!
You are welcome. Sounds like a good plan. Just to clarify... not every week during the semester it will be like that. There are weeks that are easier where you might only have two days of classes. Then, there are those weeks that are the opposite. For example, this semester there will be several weeks where we have two days of classes, one day of lab, and two clinical days... plus you have to go to the hospital the day before your clinical to pick an assigment which takes a few hours out of your day because of travel to and from the hospital, research and the prep time before your clinical the next day. Anyway, good luck to you.. let me know if you have other questions...
Thank you so much for all of that info. It all feels so vague and to have some real concrete advice is like gold.
How are you doing in the program now? Can you tell me what the schedule is like day-to-day, week-to-week in each semester? (Trying to decide whether I can swing it with childcare issues...)

Well.. Things are going great. I have about six more weeks to go of classes, then a month break and then 9 days of practicum and DONE... I will graduate with a high GPA and I have worked most of the time so it is doable but you have to be flexible. This semester seems to be the easiest as far as the schedule but pretty intense as far as the material because now we are putting all of it together and applying it to the clinical setting and using our critical thinking skills to do so.
I would not be able to tell you here what the schedule for each semester is day by day or week by week cause it would take me FOREVER but if you send me your private email, I can email you my entire calendar since the first day of the first semester! I did mine as a word doc so i would be able to be organized and plan ahead. Remember though that the schedule for each starting class is different due to different factors and I am part of the last evening program. Now they are all day programs so classes are earlier
Good luck... If there is a will, there is a way....
