Hi! Just starting a thread for all students applying to the SSC/UCF BSN concurrent program for Fall 2011. Best of luck to you all!

I'm not planning on working at all not after that email anyway

I'm not either! I will already have a bunch of full time jobs....student, wife, mother, maid, cook, etc....need I say more? lol :lol2:

Coffeecrazy... I hope you realize that the nursing shortage is a bit of a myth nowadays especially in certain areas... there are hundreds of people waiting to get into nursing schools but not hundreds of jobs awaiting them upon graduation...

wannabnurse... It's hard for me to say what I really want to say in a public forum but YES, I do remember that email... actually, we still get some of those once in a while and the author seems to love sending them. I also think they are a bit inappropriate... :).

Is nursing school hard???? YES!!!

Is it the hardest thing you will ever do??? NO!!!!!

Can you do well???? HECK YES!!! Remember though that the people sitting in those classrooms are really the best of the applicants - give or take a few - and that most of us had to be A students in order to get to this point. I know you had some exchange about GPAs not long ago when you were waiting to hear about your acceptance, right? Well, let's just say that the majority of the students do not remain A students during the first semester of this program. As a matter of fact, I think we lost close to 20 in the first semester; some dropped out for different reasons but most failed. There is really no trick to it, just treat it seriously and just do what works for you. I just do what I feel is right for me regardless of what I am told to do and I am doing very well. The other people that are also doing well in my group have the same attitude. For example, at the start of the term, the professors emphasized how important it was to join study groups to the point where it felt like pressure. Well, that is great if it works for you but if it doesn't, don't do it! And if you are going to join a study group, then make sure you are studying with the people that are getting the As. It cracks me up to see several people who are struggling to make a C studying together (which is normally how it ends up working). Anyway, you get my point. If you want to be successful, you have to hang out with the successful.. Plain and simple.

Anyway, I could go on forever but hopefully this helps a bit...

This makes me feel way better

hey wannabnurse thanks for this website

Anyone else have a hard time answering the Keirsey Test?? I find it difficult to fill these out because the personalities types they are trying to diagnose are a bit obvious. Haha. :jester:

I have a part time job at an ice cream store, I've been working there for four years and I'm planning on still working 1-2 days a week because I have to in order to pay bills. I have a friend that just finished the BSN program at UCF and I talked to her about working while in the program, she said she worked every semester she was in it and that it's possible if you organize your time right. I might not work for the first few weeks of the program...I'm not sure yet...that email really scared me.

I currently work in a restaurant and I HAVE to work in order to survive and stay up on my bills. I have some money saved so hopefully that will help as well, but I just cant opt out of working.

Also I spoke with D.D (who sent the email) and she is actually a very nice young lady. she wasnt trying to scare anyone, she was just being honest about the porgram and to get us all prepared for the rigorous times that face us. I guess there are a lot people that come into the program taking it for a joke and those were the ones that she was addressing.

This just made me feel a little better :) I emailed her with my Keirsey test results and a few questions (I was scared of her response!) and she emailed back and was actually very nice!

Good idea! I have a crock pot and have never used it...definitely should start using it.
