Seminole State Spring 2012 Generic/Concurrent Applicant

Published

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone else is on this website that is applying to the upcoming spring evening term for SSC and if so, what are your thoughts. Are you nervous? I am!

This is my first post to this thread - I was provisionally accepted too! Congratulations to everyone else and to those that weren't accepted - look at all your options (including reapplying) - it will work out.

For those of you enrolling in the UCF-SSC program - are any of you planning on working while going to school? If so part-time/full-time? Do you know current students who are working? I'm just trying to get a feel for what others are doing.

Thank you.:)

I'm going to be working full time (hopefully/unfortunately). But, I work at the hospital, so my full time means three 12-hour shifts a week, and my managers are willing to split shifts/let me work late/whatever I need so that I can keep my full time status. There was a guy on my floor who did the concurrent program at Valencia, and he did go part time at one point, but he told me that it is possible to work and do the program.

OMG, I was so shocked today to read that people have been getting acceptance e-mails for the last FOUR DAYS!!! I have not heard anything, I'm super-worried right now. :(

Thank you for the information Spanky13 - it's great to hear about what others are doing.

Has anyone received a follow-up email from UCF after they sent back the RSVP? I'm trying to get everything done as quickly as possible, but I have no idea what UCF needs me to do. Anyone started on the list of things to do? Who's already signed up for boot camp?

Have you checked your spam folders? People also got declination emails, so just because you haven't heard anything doesn't mean it's bad... I'd call the school if you don't have anything at all though - they may have missed a character in your email address.

I have sent my RSVP and haven't heard anything from UCF. I signed up for the first 2 bootcamps and fingerprinting. I did my background check and ordered my drug screening! I am going to do my immunization setup soon. As soon as I get the Chain of Custody thing in the mail I am making an appt at Quest. I want to make an appointment to do my chicken pox titer, flu shot, and physical, but I want to get the forms from UCF so my doc can sign them at the same time. I wanted to get my HepA and meningitis vaccines too, but my doc doesn't do them.

I have a friend who is more than halfway through the program and he actually has two jobs and does school. I am also planning to work, because I just got hired at south seminole hospital and my soon to be supervisor said that she will try and work around my schedule.

Also to anyone, what is going on with the course schedule? By that I am asking, will the clinicals be on the weekend or during the week, or possibly both. I only ask because this is supposed to be the evenings & weekends track, but the paper, I am pretty sure most everyone picked up at the application drop off, stated: classes will be scheduled between 8 in the morning (I think), and sometime in the evening with the possibility of weekend clinicals. I know that we will find out during orientation, but I was just curious if anyone had some info that maybe was not out there at this point.

I heard that they were trying to get away from the "nights and weekend" phrasing since it's pretty much the same schedule between all of the semesters now. I looked up the classes on SSC and UCF's website, and it looks like this is our schedule:

Monday 830a-920a or 930-1020 - Health Assessment Lab (UCF)

Monday 3p-6p - Fundamentals of Nursing

Tuesday 10a-1p or 2p-5p - Pharmacology

Wednesday 9a-1050a - Health Assessment (UCF)

Wednesday 11a-1150a - Health Assessment Lab (UCF)

Wednesday 1p-730p - Fundamentals of Nursing

Thursday 9a-330p - Fundamentals of Nursing

The UCF classes are on the SSC campus, and I couldn't find the Professional Seminar class through my UCF account like I could with the Assessment class. This also doesn't include clinicals/extra labs/activities/etc. This is just what I found through the SSC and UCF catalogs for next semester for these course numbers.

For those of you working in a hospital setting are you cna's or patient care technicians? Do the hospitals work with a student schedule?

Thank you.

It depends on your individual managers. My managers have pretty much told me that I can do whatever I need to do as far as splitting shifts/staying late/taking PTO/switching my schedule so that I can succeed in the program. I know that some other floors are not as flexible.

It sounds like you have some great bosses! Thank you for all the information.

I was seriously hoping the classes wouldn't start until after noon. I get to work around 7:30am everyday. I know they would work with me if I needed to leave early, even if its every day, but probably not that early especially on Mondays. ugh.
