Semester is than half over- How is everyone doing?

Published

Hi fellow prenursing students! I thought I would check in and see how everyone is doing in their classes the semester. Check in and let us know how your classes are going, what are you loving or hating, what is challenging you or what you are surprised isn't so difficult after all. Bascially- how you're doing!

I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology 2 and Microbiology and Pathology. I was taking Chemistry 1 and ended up dropping it as it was too hard taking three science w/labs at one time when one of those classes is CHEM! I started A/P 2 off bumpy but am back to an A thanks to a 103 on my last lecture exam over cell respiration, metabolism, blood and blood clotting. We're doing our last cat lab Thursday and I'm nervous but confident I will be ready!

Microbiology is the most fun I've ever had in a science class. It's interesting, the labs are a blast and I'm doing AWESOME in it. I'd literally have to stop showing up to lose my A at this point. (Ain't happening!) ;)

Check in!!

Yeah, we only have 4 exams for the entire semester and they are all broken into 2 parts: Lecture and Lab. My professor does have all the lectures online via powerpoint and has a clear up syllabus of what topics will be on the exam so that's extremely helpful but it is still quite a bit of info to remember. I think I'm going to try your ideas of flash cards and mnemonics. I do have a mnemonic for the cranial nerves and a separate one for remembering if they are Motor, Sensory or Both so that's been super helpful too! Thank you for the suggestions... memorizing is still a new skill for me and I'm trying to find the most effective techniques.

I'm still learning memorizing skills too.. it is NOT my strong point.. I much prefer something I have to comprehend over something I just need to memorize.. mnemonics work good and also visualizing the parts of the body you're studying. Like for the cat arteries it's helped to section off the body and learn it piece by piece. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great.

Doing ok, so far so good. Taking math 102 Intermedite algebra. My teacher is awesome, she breaks it down where I can learn and retain the info. I think I am going to take this teacher next semester for math 110/college algebra. What really sucks about this class is that I have to take it before taking college algebra (and it doesn't technically count) I am so ready to start summer classes, because I will be done with all nine prereqs, I can finally apply to the ADN program in September. I then will have a four month break until Jan 2012, when the next nursing program starts.:yeah:

I only attend school part-time to complete my science & psych classes as I have many of the general ed prereqs from another Associate's Degree I earned. Right now, I'm taking General Psychology and Biochemistry and have high A's in both. :)

I tried writing stuff out and making notecards... think that may do the trick!

Good luck MZRaindayz!

Great job Snow_Bear! An A in biochem?? IMPRESSIVE!

I am glad to hear the good news from most people from this message board.

Sadly I do not believe I am in the same boat.

I am taking A and P 2, Microbiology, and Foundations of Chemistry.

I aced A and P 1, but 2 (for me anyway) is a bit harder to focus on (my professor is a bit dry when lecturing)

Microbiology is by far the worst of the bunch. It seems as hard as I would try there are things that just do not line up properly. I never expected Micro to be as hard as it is.

I cant believe that I am saying this, but I think my best class is Chemistry. Even if it is the foundations....

Good Luck everyone! To those of you doing well, keep on doing it. To those who need that extra push (like myself) lets try harder!

I've heard Micro can be really challenging just depending on who you are and how your professor teaches it. Is there any way you can retake it and take fewer classes that time around? Hopefully that's not neccessary and you finish with the grade you want!

Well, I'm on the quarter system (this is the first week of the third quarter), so I will just give you the run down of my past grades:

Chem101- B

Chem102- A- (YAY! I was so happy)

Psychology- A

Sociology- A

Biology- A

English- AP credit

Right now, I am taking Human Anatomy (my last prerequisite). It is too early to tell, seeing as how we are just finishing are first week of the quarter.

Great in Medical Microbiology, great in Western Civ, and not doing well in Anatomy 2. I had a B in A&P 1, but I'm struggling with a new, harder teacher. Also doing well in Nursing Concepts!

So far I am doing pretty well...was scared for a minute that I was going to break my 4.0 streak but I somehow fixed my Anthropology grade last minute and pulled an A! so as of right now I have an A in Anth101, A in Math97, A in Eng231, B+ in Micro, and a B+ in APII! and im so excited because Im sure I can pull A's in Micro and APII if i study more. This is my last semester of pre-reqs for the ADN program and second to last semester for pre-reqs for the BSN-MSN programs. Woohoo good things come to those who wait. Victory to the prepared.

I'm rocking English 112 (Mmmm, Othello), and A&P I is trying very hard to kick my butt, but I'm fighting back.

BIG BIG BIG test on the musculoskeletal system tomorrow. Blech.
