I googled it. They are not an agency or job center. 1199 SEIU is a union for healthcare workers in the north east region (MA, NY, NJ, MD, DC & FL(specifically CNA, LPN, recreational aide, maintenance workers, housekeepers, and home health aides.) It seems they do not represent RN's from what I read.
Unless you are a member I don't see how they can help you find a job especially since you cannot join as a member unless you work in a facility covered by the union.
Since when did MD and FL become part of the northeast?
MD would be definitely stretching it, If FL is northeast then what is south east? (I just copied from the website) To me "Eastern US States" would be more accurate than Northeast. Granted I've heard there was snow in GA & FL last year. In the summer it seems like half of FL relocates to NJ...
111 SEIU is a union for healthcare workers. If your healthcare facillity an 1199 union shop, you will be a member after 3 months, and covered by their collective bargaining agreemet. It's not an employment agency. In some facillities in NY, RN's are covered by 1199 SEIU, and some are covered by NYSNA. Good Luck.

Some states have removed collective bargaining activities from their state nursing association--not sure why.
Back in 1997 the hospital I worked for in West Palm Beach, Florida voted to unionize with the SEIU...so there is that "south of the mason dixon line thing"...and by the way...it did NOTHING for us...I worked under their "shop" for 3 years...it was a joke...I am not sure if the hospital is still unionized.
And this I do know..because I do the medical review the health insurance for about 100 different labor unions...
the SEIU is a SERVICE organization...not a healthcare worker union.
that's what the alpha stands for the Service Employees International Union...
In fact, healthcare is a very small part of it.
THe hospital was fighting against this particular union for that very reason.
Lots of janitors and such.....
anyway, maybe it's better now, maybe not...it was terrible then.

hello everyone, i'm an RN who graduated last may with no luck finding jobs. i have an ADN and no hospitals want to hire me. they prefer BSN over ADN and atleast one year experience. so, i've heard of 1199seiu during my nursing school, and not really sure what it is. Is it like a staffing agency, or do they help you find nursing jobs?
