Hi Everyone!
I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.
A bit about myself:
I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.
Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)
A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..
Currently taking the prerequisites...
I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!
Let's get this thread going
I haven't been accepted anywhere yet. I am on the wait list at Western and still waiting to hear from UofT (compressed programs) and Mac (4 year program b/c I didn't have biochem to apply to their compressed program). My average is 83%.
Waiting is awful. I know I am not alone as there are so many people who are waiting "patiently" for a response from these schools. That is why I find this forum comforting because everyone in here knows exactly what you are feeling. I believe that if you are meant to be a nurse it will happen for you. Just have to try your best. If we don;t get in this year we can always try again next year. Don't lose hope everyone!!!!
lalalene, thank you so much for the encouragement! i really liked what you said and i wish you the best of luck! yea after reading many posts, i noticed western seems to be even harder to get in than uoft (only 64 spots anyways). i will definitely try my best. hopefully, i will be able to get a spot somewhere. btw has anybody applied to nipissings scholar practitioner program? i would appreciate it if somebody can share their experiences.
Yeah. Although I would love to go from a wait list offer to an offer of admission to Western I am trying to be realistic. I know their cut off average for sending out acceptances was 86%. I think there are a lot of people ahead of me on the wait list with above an 83% average. I would love to hear anyones story about getting offered admission from the wait list at Western!!!
My advice to anyone that is applying to nursing next year is to apply to as many schools as you can afford. I know myself and many others regret not applying to more schools. For such a competitive program you odds are better the more places you apply!!!!
I feel the same as all of you. I got rejected from Western and Mac - I went to Laurier and they still haven't sent my final grades which of course were my best, so I think my school really screwed me over. Having said that, I still haven't heard from U of T either but my hopes are not up. I'm waitlisted for Western's 4 year program... just hoping to get in and do one year then reapply with a higher average. Knowing the cutoff was 86 this year, and it went up 4 percent.... can you imagine if it's 90 next year? Like jesus. As if they don't let more people in. I also think it's completely unfair if they let in second/third year students. I think degree holders should get first pick.
libs4- I went to Laurier as well and got rejected from Western and an alternate offer from Trent (for more general undergrad science instead of the compressed nursing) because our official grades aren't released in time. It's ridiculous that our school takes nearly 2 months to release final grades.
I called them a few weeks ago to ask the reasoning behind why they take SO much longer than any other school and the registrar's office was not helpful at all. They basically told me that they go through each student's grades individually by hand to ensure that they are correct which is why it takes so long and there's absolutely nothing that we could do to speed up the process (even in the event such as this where outside programs had date requirements for submitting official grades before they are official from our school). It really sucks that something completely outside of our control had such an impact on us.
libs4 and vxd4722 what was your average in the last two years (that Western would have used) in order to send you a rejection?
I am so sorry to hear about Laurier. It is a shame that they take so long to get your grades back as I can see how that an cause problems for other schools you apply to
I just went on the website and read that they take your best 20 half courses or 10FCEs. Does that mean they take your 20 highest grades from 1st-4th year for the calculation?
Yes, they say they take your 10 best FCEs. I assumed they select them from all your undergrad courses but I didn't confirm this with the department. I just applied and hoped for the best. Good Luck to you for next year!
I noticed some people have asked about a UofT waitlist. Is there even such a thing?
Although, I am wondering if you don't get in by the 30th of June, then do they then create a waitlist?
We only have 2 weeks more (or hopefully less) of waiting as June 30th is the deadline for decisions to be sent out via email.

Im also starting to think there is no UoT waitlist. I really hope it doesn't continue on into July or August! Can anyone confirm?

lalalene, where have you applied to? have you accepted any offers yet? and would it be ok if you share your gpa with me? in my previous post to luck_r, my gpa is just around the mid-B range so I am super scared I won't be able to get anything.
