Hi Everyone!
I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.
A bit about myself:
I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.
Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)
A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..
Currently taking the prerequisites...
I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!
Let's get this thread going
libs4- yeah I don't think I would have gotten into Western either (that 86 cutoff is NUTS), but I think I for sure could have gotten into Trent if they had accepted my unofficial grades.
lalalene- I think the average that Western rejected me from was about 9.8 on the 12 point GPA scale but my final grades would have bumped that up to around a 10.6 (between an A- and an A), although that probably still wouldn't have been enough for the 86 cutoff!
No.... still pending for U of T. I really don't know why, I don't think my grades compare to some people's that are still waiting. Having said that, I did have great references and a good application and experience. I also don't know if u of t looks at your last year, your last 2 years, or your full 4 years. Anyone know? My final year I had a gpa of 9.6 on the 12 point scale, or around a 3.6. I'll let you know first thing when I receive an e-mail from them.
Hi everyone! I was called today by Western University to offer me a place after I had been on the wait list! I will be accepting, which means that a place will be opening at Lakehead if anyone's waiting there. As for my GPA, I'm not really sure how they calculated it as i took BIOL 235 after my degree was completed, meaning I don't know which courses they used for the remainder of the calculation of last 10 courses. I would the GPA western would have calculated would have been between 83 and 86 percent though.

vxd4722 it's brutal. I think I for sure would have gotten into Mac, however, I don't think I would have gotten into Western anyway. They did accept a screenshot of my final grades to go off of and I still wasn't at an 86. I'm waitlisted for the Collaborative program - hoping to just get in and do year 1 and reapply. It really is irritating.... as if they only have 64 spots. I think that is absolutely ridiculous. I really do not want to go to school for another 4 years and spend all that money.
[COLOR=#003366]lalalene my sGPA is 3.5 (B+) and my last 10.0 full credits (20 classes) GPA is only a 3.1 (76%). I don't expect to get into U of T now that I see how high the cutoffs were. I wish I had known - they shouldn't even put that you can get in with a minimum B+ GPA because obviously that is NOT the case. Their cutoff on the website should be an A so that people don't even bother applying lol. It's kinda BS. Anyway.... I guess I'll see what happens next. Next year I'm going to apply to a bunch of other programs too so I don't run into this again - I have no idea if re-taking a couple courses would even bring my GPA to an A+. That's a large jump.
