Hi Everyone!
I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.
A bit about myself:
I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.
Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)
A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..
Currently taking the prerequisites...
I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!
Let's get this thread going
Well, just a guess. If the main offers went out and had a response deadline of June 13 (I think someone wrote that on here somewhere), I'm guessing that my offer today was from someone who did not take a spot in the program. I'm guessing there would have been more than one person who didn't take a spot, meaning that they would have contacted a few people today. It is June 16 now, with a weekend in there. My response deadline is tomorrow at noon (I'm guessing that at least a few other people would have been contacted today with the same deadline). If it takes approximately 2 days in between when a deadline and when they offer new people, that would mean that possibly this week other people could be contacted if someone who got an offer today declines it. This is all speculation on my part though, I have no idea. I guess it depends on how many people who got accepted are going to take it or leave it.
For those wondering about you UoT - they look at the last 5 FCE, so the last year of courses.I'm still waiting to hear from UoT and I will post any news as soon as I hear anything on my end.
Hang in there everyone still waiting!
The above is true but your sup app plays a large role and they also favour degree holders.
@sharpie16. Thank you for the kind words. It is so nice to hear ppl on this site being supportive of one another. I try to talk to some of my friends about it but they just don;t understand because they aren't going through the same thing.
Cheers to tomorrow being a good day of A LOT of acceptances, smiles and a feeling of relief for many!!!
Good luck everyone!!!

Would that be a degree received prior to this year? Or, for instance, I just had my convocation and received my degree last week, so would that still count? Or do they prefer people who have received their degrees prior to this year?
And you're right, we have to stay positive!! Keep your fingers crossed for good news tomorrow! :)
I agree. From what I've seen from people in the U of T facebook group, most of the people who have been accepted are 2nd and 3rd degree holders (e.g. PhD and Masters degrees). Not to psych anyone out, but they definitely place a large emphasis on the supplementary application and the references, as well as a commitment to the profession and research community. In my application I wrote that I wanted to be a nurse-researcher, and I was accepted early in April, although my last 5 FCE's from my masters program were all A+/A, and from my undergrad they were also all A+/A (no A-'s).
I think it's almost ridiculous that nursing school is becoming as competitive as medical school to get into...!

Thanks for sharing that! It is really quite intimidating but I guess it gives us an idea of what we need to do if we have to reapply (not that I really want to entertain that idea just yet!). It's really unfortunate that all of these programs have become so competitive.
Congrats on your acceptance by the way!
I also wanted to share some information I had about the waitlist as well. When I spoke to one of the advisors early in the month they said that the waitlist is not structured in a consecutive list but rather applicants are placed in groups and if there are spots all of the them get in rather than just the one person.

How do you gather when the next wave of offers will go out from that information??
