Hi Everyone!
I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.
A bit about myself:
I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.
Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)
A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..
Currently taking the prerequisites...
I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!
Let's get this thread going
@lalalene and @sharpie16 They just emailed me back saying I'm placed in the 3rd group on the wait-list and if any spots do open up, I would be notified in August. Oh well, I'm confident this will motivate me harder next year.
The average of my past 10 courses was only an 81 and my volunteering is most likely not as strong as other candidates. I've previously volunteered with mentally disabled teens in a high school, at a sexual education centre and also volunteer for the LGBTQ group at my school. Maybe this will give you an idea of where your applications would stand beside mine. If you email them, they'll let you know which group you're in! :)
@lalalene I graduated McMaster Kin in 2011 and got mostly 10's, 11's and 12's on the 12 point scale. I don't have recent grades and can't honestly remember my % average from then. I'm sorry!! I wish I could be more helpful. The letter that I got does say that I have until June 27th to respond to my offer though if that helps - might give you an idea of the next set of offers (but hopefully you get a call soon for this round)

lalalene, I have a friend who applied to UWO last year and had an 84.6 average for her last 2 years (the admission cut off for the last year was 85 or 86%, I don't remember which). She was put on the waitlist well into June and was contacted by phone in late June with an offer of admission. They told her that had she not answered the phone that day, they would have gone on to offer her spot to the next person. So you only get one phone call!! Keep your phones charged and on you at all times!!
