Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

I did not get any response yet either so we will see what happens.

@cupteel, Thanks for letting us know! Did they say how many people per group? And does Toronto also notify by one-chance phone call? Or will they contact us by email?

@lalalene, is Western or Toronto your first choice (if you got both)?

And for for those who received acceptances from UoT, would you mind letting us know if you'll be accepting or rejecting so those of us on the waitlist can have an idea of how many spots need to be filled! Thanks in advance!

Stay strong everyone!!! :)

haha if only that were true. I am just hoping to get accepted to one of them, either one would be amazing. I haven't really compared the two in depth because I don't want to get my hopes up more than they already are. They both have their pros and cons.

I wish this were the move "click" and we could fast forward to know if we get accepted and then rewind again haha

Fair enough :p And LOL wouldn't that be convenient!

haha indeed it would :)

Since I am sure we will all eventually become nurses at some point, does anyone know where they want to specialize or why they plan on doing after they get their BScN?

Also, for anyone that doesn't make into nursing for Sept...their are some schools that do a January intake. I know I am already looking into applying to these schools.

I want to be an OR nurse :) And potentially even look into nurse practitioner.

And which schools offer a January start?!

I have just started browsing so I don't have a full list. Two of the ones I can think of off the top of my head are York University and University of Calgary

Ok thanks, I'll look into it!

What are your goals for nursing? :)

There are a few areas that I am interested in. I haven't fully made up my mind but am very excited for clinical to "try out" different areas. I think ICU would be interesting.

also does anyone know if there is a facebook group for U of T nursing 2016?

Yes there is!

Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing (UofT) - Class of 2016

I still haven't heard from U of T, not really banking on it! That Western phone call thing is messed up - I have my home phone listed but I'm wondering if I should be leaving my cell number instead so that I have it at all times. Thanks for letting us know!
