Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

Hey Everyone,

I just received my acceptance email from U of T!!

Good Luck to everyone! I know stressful the wait is!

Congrats! Do you mind posting your stats?

Congrats!! Are you an internal or an external applicant? I'm freaking out, I thought answers are coming out in April..

Hey Everyone,

Hi everyone,

I also received an offer from U of T as well. I have always been a silent observer so I can appreciate everyone posting updates on their applications, and their stats as well. I applied to U of T and Western. A little bit about my application:

I was very surprised to hear back so early, but my average in my final year was an 82%. All of my prerequisites were A's and A+. I handed in 3 references letters, one work/volunteer related one, and two academic ones that were of PhD status. I was in both of their classes and had also worked with the other as an undergraduate research assistant for a year.

My volunteer work includes helping out at SickKids Hospital, Groves Memorial Hospital, Kidsability, a Child Care Center, a hearing clinic and a public school. I was also on a varsity team for 4 years. My work experience includes coaching since 2006 and being a student athlete mentor for university students (basically tutoring them and providing emotional support during their time in university).

If you have a lower average don't feel discouraged! Just hope for the best. I guess this is a clear example of how much U of T takes supplementary apps into consideration! Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of you in Sept!

Email acceptance from UofT! The Join UofT site still says "pending", but the First in Nursing Portal page has been updated. It's a conditional offer, just need to get 60% in my outstanding course.

My stats:

- UofT 2013 honours bachelor science (Neurosci and psychology)

- I only submitted the minimum 2 reference letters. One from my psych lab supervisor and another from my TA on behalf of a professor.

- I've work through out my undergrad part-time. This past year, I've been volunteering in a psychology lab, tutoring high school students, and working two library jobs

- Dragon boater for 4 years. Coached last year

- Volunteer work: OISE, psychology lab

- Grades: I would admit I was on the low side. My cGPA is just floating above 3.0, my first two years were brutal. I struggled due some circumstances but explained it in my application, so perhaps that helped. Last annual GPA was 3.7

Good luck to all of you still waiting!

PS. Has a Facebook group been started?

I was accepted to Queen's AST!!!!! Good luck to everyone still waiting! Hope to see everyone in the Fall!

Congratulations to those who have received acceptances! and thanks for putting up your stats, that's very helpful to all.

@Lyn.31 are you taking a prerequisite course currently in which they asked to get at least a 60%?

I graduated last June, and I already have all the prerequisites for UofT. But I took an elective course, anatomy (ANA301), for Western. It might just be a general UofT condition for applications who are still taking courses.

I applied to UofT and York last year and didn't make it, so I applied to Mac, Western, and Queens this year. Never give up :)

For anyone who has applied to UofT, does your application status at your JoinUofT account still says "Application Received - To be reviewed"??

Also, for the transcript section at JoinUofT, UofT asked for 3 documents. However, it states that they only received 1 of them.

The 3 documents UofT requested are:

1/ Transcript sent from OUAC by institution - It says they received it on January 23, 2014

2/ Final transcript - It makes sense that UofT hasn't recived it yet since I have never sent it out (I am still in process of completing my undergraduate degree)

3/ Detailed transcripts or mark sheets showing all subjects studied to date, previously or in progress, in each academic session, the grades obtained and the grading scale used - I assumed that this is the same transcript that I sent via OUAC105D. However, in my JoinUofT account, nothing was indicated under the "received on" column. Should I be concerned? Because right above the table, it clearly says: "Transcripts from Ontario Universities and Colleges must be received via the Ontario Universities' Electronic Transcript System (EDI) via OUAC. We DO NOT accept paper transcripts from Ontario Universities and Colleges. If you are currently enrolled, you must make two separate requests when you submit your OUAC Transcript Request: a request for a transcript to date and a request for a final transcript."

I have submitted my application definetly before the deadline, and due to the unchanging status, and missing dates from the documents section, I'm worried if UofT has actually received everything before the deadline :'(

Sorry for the long post, but any reply will help! Thank you in advance!

Does anyone know, if my York offer expires on March 28, when is the latest time I can accept it by? Would that be end of business day today, or tomorrow? Or midnight? I am holding out for UofT, but haven't heard from them yet. Thanks

@tongtong

I've was accepted on Mar 25th, my JoinUofT page only updated from "Pending" to "Accepted" today.

From my experience from last year and this year, the JoinUofT page updates very slowly, if at all.

I'm an internal student, but my Required/Received Document section still says "Enrolment Services will make arrangements for transcripts" and blank on the Received On column. If you're worried, contact the inquiry.nursing email. I've never been able to get through to them on phone, but they seem to be good with emails.

@tongtong I contacted the administrator at U of T about this and they said this site is used for numerous programs so as long as you sent in what they asked for on the application you should be fine. I would double check but I think you are fine and aren't missing any documents.

@mighty_atom I was just wondering, when did you hear from York? I was unaware they were sending out acceptances already :dead:
