Hi Everyone!
I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.
A bit about myself:
I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.
Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)
A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..
Currently taking the prerequisites...
I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!
Let's get this thread going
Congrats Kerohime! Feeling kinda worried about my credentials now.... If anybody else finds out about UofT please post stats too!
I feel the same way! It's hard not to doubt yourself when comparing your stats to the stellar stats of others! However, UofT and other competitive nursing programs admit a wide variety of applicants. It will all depend on how your GPA, experience, and supplemental application come together as a package to present yourself as a unique and competitive candidate. Everyone will have different strengths and experiences, so it's not really useful to directly compare yourself to others...you may have strong points in your application that they don't have! So fingers crossed, stay positive, and hope to hear something exciting soon! :)

Very true! Just hard to wait patiently esp knowing that you can hear as late as June 30th :S. But atleast I got into other schools so I know I will be a nurse one way or another.

Yeah, I will do my best at explaining but I would be what you might consider a mature student.
I just finished my masters degree at u of t in physiology. So I have quite a lot of research experience and a couple of publications, and TA experience.
My last 5 full credit courses was approximately 3.6 to 3.7. My pre req marks were around 3.8 at the university of Waterloo. I also did campus response team, volunteered at hospitals since I was 15 years old and did research in undergrad. I was also a clinical research assistant for a year before my masters and I'm still doing research now until I start in sept again.
It took me a while to figure it out but academia and basic science research were not fulfilling for me. Clinical research and direct patient contact were much more rewarding for me.
I hope that helps.
