Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

Congratulations! Would you share your academic status with us? Thank you.

I got accepted into Humber (UNB) Second Entry program! So excited.

Hey I was also recently accepted. Did you have to pay a deposit to confirm your enrollment?

Yeah Humber was my first choice. I didn't have to pay a deposit to confirm, I just confirm with them over the phone. I think there is a payment date coming up, that i'll have to look into haha.

By academic status, i'm assuming you mean my previous academics. I'm a B.Ed (Biology/Math) and B.Sc (Hon. in Biology) grad, my cummulative GPA is calculated around 3.6/4.0

Hi everyone, thanks for starting this thread, I've been looking for something like this for a while. Congratulations to everyone who has gotten in so far! Just a little bit about me, I've applied to U of T and Western, haven't heard back yet though. Does anyone know how conditional acceptances work? I'm enrolled in an anatomy course over the summer and its on my transcript but I'm not sure how it works for conditional acceptances? I've heard that the average for western last year was 81, and I am above that (~83.4) without this anatomy course. Also does anyone know the average for U of T last year?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the board. I've applied to UWO, UofT, Mac and Queens. So far I've been accepted at Queen's, hoping to get in at UWO! congrats to everyone accepted so far!

From reading older threads (so not an ideal source) it seems a lot of people got in with a 3.6 GPA in their last year and a couple with 3.5 but they had great supplemental apps and got in closer to June. Hope that helps! A lot of questions are answered in the older threads

Hey Everyone,

I'm also an applicant for U of T 2014, patiently awaiting my decision like you all.

Just to give you insight I applied for entry fall 2012 and was accepted but chose to postpone my nursing degree to complete an MSc. My gpa in my last year of undergrad is difficult to calculate since I took more than a full course load and did additional undergrad work after graduating. I am not sure what they used to calculate my GPA but it could have been anywhere between, a 3.45 and 3.65. I was accepted the at the beginning of April. I don't think they release the previous years average GPA since it varies depending on the applicants year to year and the application is a lot more comprehensive than just the consideration of your GPA (As you all know from writing your supplemental).

Not sure if this information is of use to anyone.

Thanks! I remember hearing that U of T was like that but just wanted to see if it was true. My GPA is similar and I am also finishing my MSc. Goodluck!

Thank you @student283 for being so open. I'm freaking out - all these applicants with masters degrees and some of them it appears didn't even get an offer in UofT's first round last week. I didn't realize how competitive this was going to be.

@NursieWursie, don't worry, personally I only did a Master's degree because my average in 4th year wasn't that good so it just boosted it a little bit.

Hi all, I am new to this forum! Personally I have found this to be a love-hate relationship so far. I would peek at the board but got mad anxiety seeing people receive offers and finally gave in and realize I can't stay off it, so might as well join it! I applied to UofT and Western and am a "mature student". I have worked actively in research in the hospital system since graduating from a health sci undergrad and thought I might be considered competitive, but now am officially freaked out! I know everyone is qualified in different ways and just can't handle checking my email every 5 seconds LOL. Anyways, good luck to everyone and please keep posting your offers so we can be in the know when they send out acceptances.

P.s. anybody else have friends who have gotten in already and you are trying SO hard to be excited for them and not jealous? LOL aaaaaaaah I HATE WAITING!

Hey Everyone,

I just received my acceptance email from U of T!!

Good Luck to everyone! I know stressful the wait is!
