Seattle University DNP 2020 Cohort (RN or APNI)

Updated:   Published

I didn't see any content here on Allnurses regarding the 2020 cohort for Seattle University's APNI-DNP program so I will start one here. Anyone else applying?

Hello everyone! ?

I'm interviewing for the APNI FNP track on Feb. 1. I have a few questions I'm hoping may get answered before I send an email to Oz.

1. Dress code. I'm confused on what men should be expected to wear to this interview. Here's what was said regarding dress code in the email I received from Oz: "Be comfortable and let your personal style show through so you can focus on the interview, not what you’re wearing." Should I wear a suit and tie or does this mean a button up with some khakis is more of what's expected?

2. Do you recommend/should I bring a paper and pen to take notes on? In the email from Oz he says: "What to Bring: Just yourself. Please don’t bring a resume or other documents. Your passions, personal story, and questions will bring the conversation to life." With this said, a paper and pen would be useful to take notes on during the interview. Also, I could come with some questions written down so I don't forget them. Thoughts?

3. Does anyone have any additional information as to what the interviews are like besides what was given in the email from Oz: "The interviews are 25 minutes, during this time faculty will get to know you better, and you will have an opportunity to ask some questions of your own."?

E.g. Are the interviews 1 on 1, 1 on 2, etc.?

Who do we interview with?

Is there anything you would have done differently when you interviewed for your track?

4. Any other tips for the interview?

Thank you all for the help! I'm excited for the interview and good luck to anyone else interviewing.

Hey all! I'm in the CNM APNI year right now. Congrats on submitting your applications and on getting interviews!

My advice to you would be try to be yourself as much as possible in your interview. Take some deep breaths ahead of time and let your personality shine through. One of the reasons I applied and decided to attend Seattle U is that they value the individual and their experiences, not just their GPA. Come prepared knowing why you are applying to your specific program and why you want to be a nurse practitioner. Also, I'd suggest reflecting on why you're interested in Seattle U and how their vision and values align with the work you want to do and/or the experiences you've had.

When I interviewed I took in a portfolio notebook with some pre thought out questions jotted down. I think I opened it when I was asking questions but didn't actually write anything in it during the interview. It was nice to have as a safety net in case I forgot what I had wanted to ask.

Each track does their own interviews, so not everyone's experience is going to be the same. I applied for CNM, so my interview was with staff from the midwifery track. The staff were incredibly kind, and although they were asking questions in an interview-like fashion, it still felt very much like a conversation to me.

Congrats and best of luck to you all!

Thanks for your input! I'd love to hear more about your experience in the program. How are your clinical placements?

I got an interview for the CNM track! Had to schedule it for the 22nd because all spots on the 8th were taken and I'm out of town for a wedding the 1st. Hopefully that won't affect my chances?

I interviewed 2 cycles ago, and totally botched it. I let my nerves get the best of me and didn't represent myself well. Since I know a bit more what to expect, hopefully it will turn out okay this year! When I interviewed before, it was 2 on 1: one professor and a 2nd or 3rd year student.

Congrats @CNMh0peful! ?

I applied to the Adult-Gero track, has anyone else who applied to this track heard anything yet?

Thanks!

Hi @kmd1005!

I also applied to the Adult-Gero track and have yet to hear anything back so maybe they just haven't gotten to the AG applicants yet!

Staying positive!

Hi everyone!

I also applied to the Adult-Gero track, and haven't heard anything other than the email that was sent in error about a week ago. I'm trying to stay hopeful and positive while waiting to hear back.

Happy to hear back from other adult-gero track applicants as well ?

Hi all,

First post, but I've been following this forum for a while. For my fellow adult-gero track applicants, keep checking your emails because I just received an invitation to interview! Good luck everyone ?

Also thanks to everyone posting about interview tips!

@AmyJ, I got one as well and yes, thanks everyone for sharing your tips and advice ?

@SilverCloud11 Congratulations! I'm sure you saw the same thing, but for others reference interview dates are 2/8 and 2/22 from what I saw.

@AmyJ and @SilverCloud11 i got an email and have also been invited to interview for Adult Gero ! Since it’s a Saturday I’m flying in for an in person interview ? I picked 2/8 at 9:00am.
