searching for hospitals which offer H1B nurse sponsorship

Hi everyone,

I will graduate in May 2009 from a university in Philadelphia. However, I'm an international student with F1 visa right now. The counselor in school told me that it is very hard for me to find a job in US after graudation. Does anyone know those hospitals that still offer H1B sponsorship for nurse? Thanks.

I agree with both ghillbert and Kosmonavt. The most important thing to do now is to get as much training and as many certifications/educations as possible (whether is getting the CCRN or WOCN). Pursuing a BSN is a great way to start, but you must also understand BSN is pretty common in the US. So you want to go one step head...go for your Master and Doctorate instead. The higher you go, the more marketable you are.

So, let me recap-

In order to have a US hospital to sponsor your H1 visa, your chances are MUCH higher if you are a specialized BSN nurse. And the specialization MUST requires BSN degree.

HOWEVER, there are hospitals (most likely in rural areas) or non-profit organizations that will sponsor H1 for a recent BSN graduate.

And, therefore, CCRN certification does not make BSN eligible for H-1B, unlike Wound and Ostomy care certification, that requires BSN.

BSN is not required for CCRN certification, that's true - I didn't suggest it was. I suggested CCRN to make yourself attractive as a specialist nurse to a prospective employer. BSN relationship to certification is irrelevant for the purposes of H1B employment - the requirement is that the POSITION requires a bachelor degree. So if you approach hospitals requiring a BSN for the position you're applying for, that makes you H1B-eligible.

You were suggesting that CCRN certification may help to get H-1B

A lot of misleading information has been posted so far in this thread.

Hospitals ARE still sponsoring H1B visas - if they want you. To make them want you, I would not think of something like a WOCN nurse. I'd be going more for critical care/ICU and getting your CCRN certification. Critical care nurses are in demand globally. The problem is that you still may not be seen as a "specialist" after one year's experience. The certification would help your cause though. The best solution would be to get a job with OPT, get into critical care (or other in-demand area), get certified, and try to get your employer to sponsor H1B.

And I was suggesting that getting CCRN certification is not going to help to get H-1B. Unlike WOCN, it's not mandatory to have BSN to work as a CCRN. It has nothing to do with how many years of experience one has. Even a new grad certified WOCN is eligible for H-1B, whereas certified CCRN with 20 years of experience may not (unless it's management or something like that that indeed requires BSN).

Isn't it also upto hospital discretion whether they chose to have BSN as a requirement for a particular

position?

The hospitals can claim anything they want, buy the have to prove to USCIS that a position requires BSN.

No, I clearly said it might help a hospital WANT you ie. make you a more attractive candidate. All that is required to prove skilled professional is a job description that requires BSN.

Do you have a skilled professional visa? I do.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Can we try to keep to topic on hand and not get things personal.

H1b is a specialist visa and the person applying for it must meet requirements and the hospital also has to prove that they can not employ this person with a USC/legal resident.

The OP should at the moment concentrate on getting their training. Who knows what is going to happen in a couple of years but they need to be prepared that they may not be able to sty in the US once they have completed their training.

Do you have a specialty visa? I do.

So, what's your job description?

hi i was reading this trend and it makes me excited. Does this apply to USRN outside USA?can i apply CCRN through online just to gain certificate?is it possible?thanks

I seriously doubt that this is something that can be done online. You also need experience in a critical area

philadelphia area has 2 wocn programs i'm familar with:

a. graduate level courses at [color=#0000cc]la salle university wound ostomy continence nursing education program

b. ce program wicks educational assoc, wound specialty program

both programs require 1 yr experience as bsn so this will not be an option.

going for addition education at masters level will allow one to remain in us....many programs do not require experience.

best wishes in your journey.
