  1. Hello, I am currently licensed in NC, and trying to get licensed by endorsement in GA. In the application, they require information of school's accreditation status, which I have no clue where to get from. I just graduated from Duke in May, by the way. I spoke to a person from GA board of nursing and they had no clue, either. Is sealed official transcript sufficient?
  2. My Pediatrics class is rather unstructured and unorganized, having it been taught by two professors with no prior teaching experience. Their lectures notes contain nothing but few pictures and simply assign massive amount of reading from which no one in class can tell what is important and not important. And, this is ABSN program, so it's not like we don't know how to study. So I am asking for a favor to other fellow nursing students, is anybody outhere willing to share their lectures notes from Pediatrics course? I would really appreciate your help!
  3. I had a phone interview on 15th, wendesday. For some reason, I got really nerveous and my voice started to shake halfway through the interview. I thought I did ok in some questions, and sort went around illogically on the others. I managed to finish the entire thing in a little less than 30 min. But I think they would understand if you went a little overtime, because it's impossible to precisely time yourself. In the end, you want to say all the things you want to advertise(?) yourself. I am really anxious to find out as well.
  4. Definately traditional BSN is going to be easier. I already have B.S from U.S, so it's not as much of an obstacle as it would be for someone who just arrived in U.S.
  5. Not Michigan, but U of Minnesota. The tuition difference ends up being around 3~4 grands. I am not sure if I will get the scholarship at U of Minnesota. I think financially, and economically, it makes a lot of sense to go to Shenandoah. I am in my late 20s, and do want to get done with school asap. With that being said, as an international student, it would be a lot more beneficial to go to a large school with a lot of resources.
  6. I am admitted to two different nursing programs 1. Univeristy of Minnesota - Twin Cities Traditional BSN for 3 years. 2. Shenandoah University Accelerated BSN program for 15 months. Tuition was, Shenandoah University is a little cheaper just because it's shorter. U of M definately has a better program academically and clinically. I was originally gonna join Shenandoah University, then I found out that they were still trying to get a few professors to teach some of the courses. I became worried if the program wasn't stable and could become cancelled. With the current economy, even schools are struggling, and I wouldn't be surprised if small universities had to cancel some of their programs. Also, as an international student, having a diploma from a better school would make a difference in getting employed? I know it doesn't matter at all once you get the job, but could school name matter in order to get the first job? Additionally, I would a lot more work / internship experiences at U of M, than at Shenandoah. I am starting to think U of M might actually be a wiser choice even though it's longer and would cost a little extra in the long run? Any inputs?
  7. Isn't it also upto hospital discretion whether they chose to have BSN as a requirement for a particular position?
  8. So, let me recap- In order to have a US hospital to sponsor your H1 visa, your chances are MUCH higher if you are a specialized BSN nurse. And the specialization MUST requires BSN degree. HOWEVER, there are hospitals (most likely in rural areas) or non-profit organizations that will sponsor H1 for a recent BSN graduate.
  9. Thanks for the information. I guess if there is shadow, then there is also light... I will look into CCRN certification.. Thanks a lot, and good luck to you as well..
  10. haha, very encouraging information..... what happen to the shortage in nurses?
  11. Thanks for the info. There is always a risk / chance that I wll have to return to my home country with any field of study. So the retrogression affects every H1 and GC applicant regardless of their home country? I guess my best bet with BSN is to get into NP program or specialize after a year of experience. Does foreign NPs also have this much difficulty with employment?
  12. I am from S. Korea..I am actually considering doing Industrial Engineering with this new piece of info on nursing employment. I could work for biomedical companies, hospitals, or so on..I am not sure how easy it is to get GC with M.S. as an engineer, though a lot of companies do sponsor H1 for engineers. However, in timees like this, we are also the first ones to go...lol This new information contradicts everything I have read / heard on immigration process for nurses....I have even heard stories on how friend's friend did nursing and got her green card in matter of months. And that person was from India... I guess there is uncertainty in visa / immigration process in any profession. I just thought it was much easier for nurses...
  13. I didn't even apply for OPT after my first B.S. So, I am still eligible.... Money is also an issue. Currency has nearly doubled, I don't think I could go through 4 years of school finanically.
  14. Thanks for the reply. I have stayed in Texas, and wouldn't mind living there especially in Houston. I don't have any experience as a nurse besides working as a hospital volunteer. From what I have read, I guess I could work for a year on OPT and try to become specialized w/i a year, then try to find a hospital, which will sponsor H1 visa. I will have to find out if this is a realistic goal or not, since one year experience in engineering field is not much. Or, i guess I could work in Canada or Australia, then try to come back to US if I really want to? Are those the only two countries that recognize American RN license?
  15. I have a B.S in computer engieering from UW-madison. I didn't use my OPT, and worked for 2 years elsewhere (different country). I always had a thing for health professions, and came back to take pre-requisites for pharmacy school...Then I sort of switched my mind to nursing with more career options and few number of years in school. Right now, I am waiting to hear admission decisions from a few BSN programs U of Minnesota, Shenandoah University, of UT-Houston. I don't think I got into UT Houston...
