Hi everyone,

I will graduate in May 2009 from a university in Philadelphia. However, I'm an international student with F1 visa right now. The counselor in school told me that it is very hard for me to find a job in US after graudation. Does anyone know those hospitals that still offer H1B sponsorship for nurse? Thanks.

Specializes in OR/DR/RR, Surgical Unit.

Anyone who knows an agency that offers H1b visa? please pm me if you have one. In spite of the the struggles applying for h1b visa, I still want to try my luck. Thank you :)

Hi There!

I hope things are goiing well for you. I am in your same situation. However, I do not know if you are aware that once you finished your education in an American College, you have the right to apply for a hyear of Optional Practical Training (OPT), your international student adviser or your immigration lawyer have to be aware and tell you about it. during this year you can work in a hospital and obtain experience, but make sure to pass the nursing board (NCLEX) before.

Good luck

OPT has to be applied before you graduate from the program you can not apply for it after graduation.

I am graduating in July 2010, going thru accelerated BSN program, previously having bachelor's degree in Micro-bio from India. Currently I am on my soupse's dependent visa H-4. Reading the H1-b sponsoring issues makes me nervous, I am seeking advice on immigration and getting sponsored by a hospital. Plz IM me name of lawyer I can hire for my immigration case.

thanks

If looking for a GC then coming from India you will be affected more by retrogression than all other people. Feb visa bulletin is PD processing dates of 2001 for India and 2002 for everyone else. I therefore think you will have problems finding someone willing to go through the process due to the long delays. Is there any opportunity for your spouse to apply for GC that may be a better option for you but again a lot will depend on which category he meets and whether affected by retrogression or not?

ABSN is iffy on your part if you must return to India. I hope you did your homework and found out if India would accept your education as some countries might not accept the ABSN.

From my understanding a spouse on the H4 visa can't work unless they qualify for a H1b visa and you don't qualify for a H1b visa for a ABSN as a new grad. To qualify for a H1b visa the job must require a minimum of a bachelors degree and you must have several years experience in a specialized field that you have your bachelors in. Your best bet is to contact an immigration lawyer there are many places that offer free consultation. Check the local yellow pages under immigratoin lawyers, you're better off seeking legal advise through an attorney near you. Good Luck

The answer depends on a lot of variables. Employment patterns vary across different states and different georgraphical areas. In some areas, there are more opportunities for NP's to practice and in some, there are more job postings for CNS. You also have to remember that the CNS role is not clearly defined across all the states. There are states where the roles of the CNS and NP overlap. In some states, the CNS role is not explicitly outlined in the nurse practice act and anyone with a master's degree in nursing can be called a CNS even those who did not receive formal training in a CNS program. It's definitely too complicated to explain to someone unfamiliar with how nursing is practiced in the US. However, one thing is for sure, any new CNS or NP would have a better chance of being hired if they have many years of RN experience in their field. This is definitely something to consider before deciding to pursue graduate studies under an F1 Visa.

I hope you didn't listen to all those people before you who were telling you all that nonsense about your chances are slim. Once you are a PCU trained registered nurse working in a specialty field such as ER, pcU, ICU,(as long as its not med surg or BLS) you are elegible to apply for H1B visas-Florda Hospital is one of those hospitals that I know that currently employ international students on their OPT and before your OPT expire they apply for your H1B-so you can check them out.

You need several years experience in a specialized field with a minimum of a Bachelors degree in order to qualify for a H1b visa. To say that's nonsense is just plain crazy. New grads also don't qualify for a H1b visa.

I think what the poster was trying to say after one year the hospital applies for the H-1b. But how can a nurse be a specialist after one year?
