Good luck everybody! I really hope that you all get in. This is a really stressful time in our academic careers, so let's use this thread to comfort each other and to answer each others questions about the admissions process. And at one point or another, celebrate our admission in the SON. Thank you very much!
@CorinderHave you fulfilled your international experience requirement yet? Do the students get to choose the country in which they are travelling according to their budget? Are there many travelling opportunities throughout the year or only 1 per semester?
I'm eavesdropping on this thread and I noticed your question. I'm in the RN to BSN transition program at SDSU and just finished my international experience. During Spring, there are more opportunities and you travel during your spring break. The countries to choose from are Mexico (Border Towns), Switzerland, China, and Costa Rica. Some people went over winter break to India and are just taking the class over the spring semester. This summer I think Thailand is being offered but it is a longer trip. I also think there is another Mexico being offered in the fall semester.
I wish the trip was more health related, especially since it is a health and human services class, but we did nothing nursing related which was disappointing. OH and to answer your other question, yes students get to choose which country they want, but spots fill up fast. I had to crash the course, but after a couple weeks, Mexico had a lot of openings. Also, you have to pay an extra course fee (for example, Mexico was $800) for the class and for airfare (No airfare for Mexico, obviously). Meals and accommodations are provided.
PCroizier- she was very "iffy" with me too, like she wasn't clear with her answers at all. If we're unable to attend sdsu in the fall, we're completely out of the picture. I know for a fact that they will not be admitting transfers in the spring. I'll try calling again- I want to start a new thread just for spring applicants...idk how though :/
spring thread help?
Got it I think..but it doesn't search well

Hi everyone
I've been reading this thread for quite some time and decided to join in and seek some advice. I also applied for Fall 2012 but was rejected. I admit that it wasn't much of a surprise but still very disappointing. What is worrying me is that they might not have given me credit for my volunteer hours. I've been volunteering at my local hospital for over a year now but since my duties aren't necessarily hands on, they might not count.
For those of you that made it, where did you guys complete your hours? And also, did anybody get in with a total of 65 points or less?
Thanks so much! CONGRATS to all!
hi pandita, sorry to hear about the news. I'm curious though.. how many points would you have had total with your volunteer hours included? I applied for the spring cohort though so I have yet to hear back about an acceptance, but I'm a little worried too. The hospital I volunteered at wasn't very hands on either.. volunteers weren't necessarily allowed to touch the patients, I think it's like that at most hospitals though, so I think its a little unfair that they state that volunteer work should be "hands on." Have you tried contacting the School of Nursing office to verify with them how they added up your points ? Best of luck.

Hey!!!! Thank you so much for the info! Wow India and Thailand sounds anwsome! I hope they are offered when it's my time to travel, even though I think it will be a little pricey. Anyways, so the requirement is to go to another countey and take a class but we don't get to go to a local hospital at all? The class isn't even health related?? I would not expect to do clinicals abroad but visit and observe a medical practice service would be interesting.
Hi jgummy!thanks for you're response. my total points turned out to be 63. if they didn't count my volunteer hours that number dropped to 58. I know that my stats aren't very competitive but I kind of got my hopes up.I haven't called the SON to ask about how they added the points but I probably should. I will go to one of the non-admit sessions so maybe I'll find out why then. What are your stats, if you don't mind me asking?Best of luck to you as well!
Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows whether we can choose our classes (and schedule) or not. Also, it said on SDSU's website that we get to register for classes during the orientation. Would it then be better to attend the orientation on the 8th of August, which is the first day of orientations and is open for all majors, or the 9th of August, which is exclusive for just a couple of majors including nursing?

Hi naniinasci!
I was the last semester to go through that didn't have the international requirement. However, there are a lot of awesome places that you're able to go to, and there are scholarships available for most of them. :) I'm kind of envious that we didn't get to do that. There are a few a year, and they send out emails with information.
