Good luck everybody! I really hope that you all get in. This is a really stressful time in our academic careers, so let's use this thread to comfort each other and to answer each others questions about the admissions process. And at one point or another, celebrate our admission in the SON. Thank you very much!

@coriander

First of all, thank you for all of your help!! It's comforting to know that there are people like you willing to help us on this exciting journey :)

I looked over the classes you listed and it looks like the first semester comes out to about 13 units? You did mention how we take GEs in addition to our nursing classes but I really don't want to stress myself out even more than I need too. Do you recommend putting off those additional classes until the second semester? I have a friend who got into the nursing program a year ago and he mentioned to me that the first semester is definitely tougher than the second.

Once again, thank you for all of your help! :)

Hey tiger07, I'm in the same boat actually. Im pretty sure our admission to the university it contingent to our SON status and it's confusing because aren't we suppose to SIR to SDSU by May 1st? If so, then how can we SIR if we don't even know our status to the university yet? The deadline is coming up so I'm kind of worried.

Congrats to those who got in for Fall 2012! :]]

We should definitely start a new forum for Spring 2013 applicants. :]

Awwww you're so welcome. :) My pleasure. I remember being in your place not so long ago, freaking out about everything!!

The first semester should just be nursing courses. Even though Psych 351 is a relatively easy course, please wait until Spring or even Summer to take it. Many of the courses can be taken over summer, which is what I did. It made it much easier to tuck into the nursing classes. I would suggest taking any extra classes in your second or fourth semesters. I have a writing class that I'm taking now, in my 5th, and it works perfectly.

slu- i agree. we should get one started :) i have so many questions about spring & what the deal is for us.

@ Spiffy- I'm planning on going to sfsu....for now.

@tiger07 Oh I see. Best of luck! :)

Are we required to attend the New Student Orientation?

I have a question--around when do we have to complete the drug test? I know it's early to worry about it, but I don't live near San Diego so I'm hoping we're able to do it around the same time as orientation?

Are we required to attend the New Student Orientation?

Attendance at NSO is stated to be mandatory, however there are always extenuating circumstances that prevent people from going. I would highly suggest that you attend if at all possible.

This is where you get your first semester supplies, try on and order uniforms, receive syllabi and other important information from professors, and register for classes. We have breakout sessions for you that are scheduled to help you through this confusing and overwhelming time. Our advisor will also be present to hand out important information and tell you exactly what you need to do in the steps you need to do it in. :) It's really an amazing experience and helps SO much!

The information available under the compliance section on nursing.sdsu.edu is not current, and should hopefully be updated over the summer. However, I CAN tell you that the advisor is the one who you see for your drug test information, and she will tell you exactly when that date is. It comes later on after all of your other paperwork has been completed.

I hope that helps!

The SON web site says you would need to start background check process 4 weeks before school of nursing orientation.

Like Corinder said... it is out-of-dated though :(

@Corinder

Have you fulfilled your international experience requirement yet? Do the students get to choose the country in which they are travelling according to their budget? Are there many travelling opportunities throughout the year or only 1 per semester?

This link was updated on Feb 08, 2012. Hope that helps.

Thank you. :) I am just trying to figure out if I would need to come a couple weeks before orientation to get the drug screen form. But it wouldn't be the end of the world if I did...

Also, if we are a transfer student what is the procedure with taking the WPA (Writing Placement Assessment)? Can we take this during the Fall semester? - - ETA: Nevermind! I did a search and it seems that transfer students just have to take it by the end of their first semester.

@ tiger07

I also am trying for Spring 2012

I called University admissions (not SON) and asked a few questions today.

My web portal still says pending and I told her I am trying for SON spring cohort. She told me that I am still pending because I am still in "under review" status for my department. Once a decision is made by the SON my university status would be accepted or rejected. So what I gathered is that first the SON reviews applicants THEN the university reviews applicants.

I asked her what is the deal then since I will not be decided upon until July. This is where it gets a little confusing...She said that since I have not been reviewd by my department that I don't have to worry about the may 1st deadline, however I asked specifically if I will even be granted admission to the university since the SON wont be deciding till July, she said she didn't think so, but I kept pressing the issue and she didn't really answer anything clearly.

I read on a previous forum that another transfer student was meesed up by this situation previously trying to apply for spring cohort as a transfer since the university does not accept transfers for spring. I feel like I only have half the anser at this point.

We dont have to worry about tomorrows deadline but I think I need to call the SON to see I am even eligable for spring cohort as a transfer or if it is only for current SDSU students.
