Good luck everybody! I really hope that you all get in. This is a really stressful time in our academic careers, so let's use this thread to comfort each other and to answer each others questions about the admissions process. And at one point or another, celebrate our admission in the SON. Thank you very much!
@ Spiffy: Sorry to hear about rejection letter!!Did you end up forgetting to add a class to the university supplemental package? I know your scores are better than mine, so I'm guessing you were eligible for SON but not for the University?! Well at least you have 2 other CSU's options to choose from.
I heard about the capstones requirements for CSULB and that they are easy but very time consuming. I bet that would be hard to fit them into the nursing schedule. Especially if you are doing the trimester program!
I am still undecided where to go, but I am leading more towards SDSU because I already live in San Diego. I could save the money I would be spending to move my stuff north and use it towards my first semester expenses!
I guess it was something in my supplemental application but I reviewed what I put and I was definitely eligible. I called and didn't really get an explanation, but I am kinda over it now because I am sure I want to go to CSULB. I think it's good to save the money from going north. SDSU is a great nursing school and it's a privilege to be with supporting family and friends throughout the program. With this economy, it is a good idea to save up :)
first of all, congratulations to all who were accepted! those who are still looking for answers, i could suggest emailing the son. i don't know what response you'll get, but i'm still hopeful for you. don't give up, ever. it took me an extra semester to get in, because i had to retake a class.all of us received the "clinical shortage, you might not graduate ever" email. :) they have always found a way to find clinical sites for us, although some of us had clinicals in the evenings or on saturdays. hang tough, you'll make it.
the first semester and the fifth semester are the most expensive. the first semester involves uniforms, books, clickers, stethoscopes, etc. the amount will stun you. however, if you have your financial aid cleared, you can use that. absolutely. your uniforms will need to paid for with a credit card, as this is done online during orientation, however all other expenses at new student orientation will be in cash or check. books, if you find out the titles and isbn# beforehand, can be purchased on amazon or another service.
i will try to be at your orientation, but this (hopefully) depends on my (hopefully future) work schedule. lol
all the best to you! please let me know if you have any questions as you work your way up to orientation and your first semester!
sounds like son uses the clinical shortage as a way to filter students. people that might be scared that they wont graduate in 5 semesters will seek other options and deny admission at sdsu. i had tons of professors apply this same approach on the first day of class. they would go over the syllabus with hard assignments and extra curricular work, so people would be scared and drop. amazingly it always works!
thank's for your thoughts on money and expenses. i am either paying for school on my own or getting loans/financial aid... so money is a sensitive topic. lol:d
what semester are you in? i read on other threads people saying to try to get pharmacology out of way as soon as possible (preferable before nursing loads).. do you agree? should i look for an online class and try to get over with it this summer?
thanks and i look forward to meeting you at orientation day!!

I'm graduating this May, but I am looking forward to continuing my relationship with the school and the nursing student organization which has become so important to me. :)
Pharmacology will be a class in your second semester, so don't worry about having to get it out of the way. I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to give you the curriculum here (if you don't already know it.)
1st semester:
Fundamentals of Nursing (Med-Surg 1)
Pathophysiology
Physical Assessment
2nd semester:
Med-Surg 2
Pharmacology
Cultural and Mental Health
3rd semester:
Childbearing Family
Pediatrics
Research
4th semester:
Psychiatric Nursing
Community Health
Gerontology
5th semester:
Critical Care
Leadership and Management
Those are just the base nursing classes. You will, of course, have your General Education classes to fit in there, but they're easy to schedule, and some are even online. :)
