Good luck everybody! I really hope that you all get in. This is a really stressful time in our academic careers, so let's use this thread to comfort each other and to answer each others questions about the admissions process. And at one point or another, celebrate our admission in the SON. Thank you very much!
I am really glad I got accepted at SDSU since it was my first choice of school. However, the paragraph about clinicals shortage and the possibility of not graduating within 5 semesters kind of threw me off a little bit. SDSU is known for it's great nursing program but I've been going to school for so long now... I wonder how many more semesters we would have to take in order to graduate?? I was also accepted at CSULB and even though I would have to move to Long Beach, I could graduate within 2 years. Just seeking some input :)
Accepted! Any other guys in the program yet?
And naniinasci I think that at this point almost any state school will take an extra semester to graduate, so likely you are looking at (at least) 3 years at SDSU or 2.5 at Long Beach. I know two girls who graduated from Long Beach in the past couple years and it they each spent 3 full years at LB.
Wow... I hope you all have been saving some money! I was looking at the SON web site under current student's>info for New Students>letter of acceptance Spring 2012... and we are going to be spending a lot of money up front. I wonder if financial aid covers some of these expenses (as some of them needs to be paid in cash or check).
first of all, congratulations to all who were accepted! those who are still looking for answers, i could suggest emailing the son. i don't know what response you'll get, but i'm still hopeful for you. don't give up, ever. it took me an extra semester to get in, because i had to retake a class.
all of us received the "clinical shortage, you might not graduate ever" email. :) they have always found a way to find clinical sites for us, although some of us had clinicals in the evenings or on saturdays. hang tough, you'll make it.
the first semester and the fifth semester are the most expensive. the first semester involves uniforms, books, clickers, stethoscopes, etc. the amount will stun you. however, if you have your financial aid cleared, you can use that. absolutely. your uniforms will need to paid for with a credit card, as this is done online during orientation, however all other expenses at new student orientation will be in cash or check. books, if you find out the titles and isbn# beforehand, can be purchased on amazon or another service.
i will try to be at your orientation, but this (hopefully) depends on my (hopefully future) work schedule. lol
all the best to you! please let me know if you have any questions as you work your way up to orientation and your first semester!
@naniinasci I received a rejection letter from the university (SDSU) in the mail today. I am pretty sad about it, but I also got into CSULB. I read about the possibility of it taking longer than 5 semesters at SDSU, and I think even if I got in I would choose CSULB. @NateStraus talked about having to stay longer at LB, but it just depends on which program you choose. The 2 year one runs a little over 2 years I believe, by a couple months. And the 3 year option takes of course 3 years (6 semesters total) If anything, the reason why people may take longer is because of capstone courses which are required to graduate. If youre doing the 2 year program, it will be really hard to fit those in your schedule. Capstones are like upper-div GE courses so they aren't necessarily hard, but you usually have a lot of papers to do in them. LB won't "go over" in time because they have a set amount of clinical spots for however many students are admitted.
To me, it is sort of uninsuring that they make you accept that there may be curriculum changes (summer class, waiting to do clinicals because a spot isnt available). I would want to choose the school with concrete curriculum and where you are guaranteed a spot in your clinicals, and you also know exactly how long it will take. But that's just me. I really wanted to go to San Diego, but if I DID get accepted I'd probably choose Long Beach.
I still havent receive anything yet. My portal still says pending. Should I be worry that I havent receive any email? lol does that means that I got rejected already? OMGOSH im so stress out...........
BTW this is my stats:
total gpa: 3.5
preg gpa: 4.0
Teas: 84%
and 100 hrs of volunteering
has anyone got rejected yet?
My numbers are:
Overall GPA: 3.2 (super low..)
Pre-req's: 3.89
TEAS: 82%
Work experience: 1000+ hours
All together I only had 70 points and I was accepted for the Fall 2012 cohort.
As for those who haven't heard back.. In the acceptance letter it was mentioned that there is a waitlist of students who are in a limbo stage per say? Depending on how many of the accepted students will accept or deny their acceptance, the program should be mailing more acceptance letters out within the next 48 hours or so. Good luck everyone! Stay positive1

I would guess that office would send more acceptance letters by Monday afternoon or sometime on Tuesday since we have till Sunday to either accept or deny the offer.

My web portal says admitted. I will be relocating from San Francisco and will be looking for a super cheap room somewhere near campus. AAAHH, I can't wait to see you all at orientation... but I suppose we should all take this time to relax and prepare mentally. Anyone know anything about financial aid awards yet?
Good thing is, it says our deposit of $400 is not due until June 30, if i am not mistaken, which is a little more time than I was expecting... this is really awesome!
