Good luck everybody! I really hope that you all get in. This is a really stressful time in our academic careers, so let's use this thread to comfort each other and to answer each others questions about the admissions process. And at one point or another, celebrate our admission in the SON. Thank you very much!
I didn't get in either... and SDSU was the only school I applied to :/. I wasn't sure HOW to apply to other schools... I don't think I am getting into SDSU...EVER. I've got a total of 60 or so points. Since we can't fix our grades if they're above a C, I'm screwed.
Can you guys help me on the application processes involved with sending your application to multiple schools? I wasn't sure HOW exactly.. I had so many questions. What credits were applicable? Did you need to be accepted first? I'm so depressed and confused right now.
Is there really anything I can do... aside from just give up and go to community college? SDSU's course forgiveness policy doesn't allow me to make up any of my grades.... Even if I participated in the 1000+ hours of work experience, I'd still have ~ 65. I feel like I've utterly failed at everything.
For those of you who didn't make it in this time, DON'T GIVE UP!!!! I didn't make it my first application, either! Roll it over and see what happens next time. :)
If you were accepted into the university but not the nursing program, take your General Education classes now and get them out of the way. If you weren't accepted into the university, PLEASE check out the local community colleges. You can figure out which classes can equal the general education classes at SDSU and get them out of the way there (often for MUCH less money!)
I went to community college for 3 years and really had a great experience. I learned two years in that I wanted to go into nursing, so spent a little more time preparing for that application. Take Spanish classes or another language if you don't speak one already... that will also give you a bit of a boost. Start volunteering or find a nursing assistant position.
If your heart is set on nursing, follow your heart. Know that you will get there. Create a vision board with nursing stuff on it (I did this!) so you can look at it every day and know that you WILL be a nurse!!! On my vision board, I had a picture of my head on someone else who was in scrubs (lol), pictures of the BSN pin, the RN pin, and also a picture of the school of nursing. I hung that board in my bathroom where I could see it every day, multiple times a day.
Now I have to make one with finding a job on it.
In all seriousness, you can do this. You WILL do this. You will all go on and be incredible nurses. I know it!!!!
first off, congrats to all that were accepted! :) I have a question regarding spring 2013 applicants & the admissions freeze. I'm a transfer student, & applied for the spring 2013 cohort as I have a course IP right now. SDSU isn't accepting transfers for spring 2013- I called the nursing office in regards to this issue but the lady I spoke with said that the SoN has nothing to do with admissions to the university. From what I understood, she said that in order to get into the spring 2013 cohort for nursing, I have to already be enrolled at sdsu in the fall. But I thought your acceptance to the university for fall depends on your acceptance to the program? So I'm a bit confused. I was accepted to other programs but I want to wait it out for sdsu. I'm hoping I still have a chance, but who knows. Anybody know what the deal is for spring?
It's actually the other way around. Your admission to the SON depends on your admission to the University. On April 20 I was denied admission the University. Yesterday I got my rejection letter from the SON via email. I calculated my points to being 77, but it must've been a discrepancy in my supplemental application which is why I was denied. I met all the requirements and looked through my supp. app and didn't see where I could have messed up. I thought about it more and it could have been that they didn't accept my anatomy and physiology course cause I took it at a private school in riverside, and I knew that CSULB accepted it because it's on their course equivalency list but I guess it's my fault for not double checking if the SDSU SON would accept it.
Anyway sorry for my rant I'm still disappointed I didn't get the opportunity to go to SDSU but I am surely going to CSULB's program in the Fall. As for your situation, you would have to check with the admissions office. If you still have proof of your application packet, maybe they will make an exception. They almost have to, because I am sure a lot of other students applied for Spring 2013 during last years application period.

I got in! I was so happy I started crying and I never do that! :)
My stats were: 87.3% TEAS, 4.0 cum GPA, 4.0 prereq GPA, over 1000 hours LVN experience.
87/90 points. Waiting for acceptance has been enough to add a few more gray hairs to my head!
Congrats to all my future classmates! Can't wait to meet you all! :)
