Nurses Job Hunt

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would start a thread for the Scripps New Grad RN application that just opened up for the January and March 2020 cohorts. Good luck to all who are applying!

This is my second time applying too. Last time my submission status did not change either unfortunately. I hoping this time around is different!

Has anyone’s submissions changed to under hiring management review yet?

My current status says: "Hiring Manager Review – Updated: Oct 8, 2019" I passed the boards in the beginning of April and only had 3 interviews since then and have applied to many MANY programs/new grad positions. I keep getting overlooked for most positions, which is very discouraging, despite follow-up. Hoping for the best! Here are my top 3 locations:

1. Scripps La Jolla
2. Scripps Encinitas
3. Scripps Green

Specializes in Transplant PCU.

I got an email today saying they want to interview me at Scripps Green! Scripps Green was my second choice. I have my RN license and am currently working a temporary position as a flu vaccination nurse. Good luck everyone!

I got an email today for La Jolla DEU! Goodluck everyone! ? Wishing everyone the best!

For those whom received interview offers here are some tips that I feel helped me get selected to the June 2019 Cohort:

1. Create a portfolio that highlights your accolades from school and current/previous jobs (even if not healthcare related)

2. Do research on Scripps Mission and Vision statements to incorporate into your answers

3. Show your interview panel your personality. They want to see who you are and if you will fit in with the existing team.

4. Don't give cookie cutter answers. They dont ask any technical/knowledge based questions. Therefore, ensure your answers come from the heart. (A. Why did you choose Scripps? B. What are your strengths and weaknesses? C. How do you handle work conflicts) they asked a couple scenario based, what would you do questions and then rapid fire questions.

5. Interview panel typically has 3 managers on it, so bring 3 copies of your resume cover letter and credentials for them to keep. I presented mine in a folder for each.

6. Customer service and safety is of utmost important. Work that up as much as possible

7. RELAX. You are an awesome person and will be an awesome nurse. Stay positive!

Thanks Ms. Nita 83!

I'm at Chula Vista on MedSurg/Tele. I love my unit everyone is no nice and helpful. You guys will love Scripps.

Specializes in New Grad.

I received an invite to interview for SD Mercy. Current employee (CNA float) for 3 years, ADN (9/2019), no date to take boards yet.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten an interview so far! Does everyone who received an interview have hospital experience (like as a CNA, HCP, etc.)? I am just wondering if that is what sets me apart from everyone else since I don't have any hospital experience besides clinical. Thanks!

@RhinoRN I don't really have hospital experience either; however, I've been a caregiver for the special needs and elderly community for an extensive time.
