scott & white

U.S.A. Texas

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding Scott & White. Do they only hire new grads into their internship positions? I would LOVE to do an internship; however, the next critical care one is available in January. I just became a licensed RN in Texas in March and I will be moving down there until May. I honestly cannot wait until January to get a job :( I have been trying to apply to other positions on their website that all say minimum/no experience but I am not having any luck and I have no idea why! Any pointers? I am a new grad with no nursing experience; however, I worked as a nurse technician for over a year. I know they have nurse techs in Texas. I figured that would make me more marketable but I guess not!

Yeah..I'm sending in the application with the fingerprints today! I know..$139..but it's better than NJ! If I was staying here, the application for the NJ Board of Nursing is $200! These places are just ridiculous! Don't they know that we are still broke nursing students!! LOL!

Good idea! I should also do the Jurisprudence Exam to get it out of the way! Hopefully, I'll be able to get everything out of the way (application, fingerprints, jurisprudence exam, and NCLEX registration) out of the way in the next 2 weeks. That way, all they will be waiting for is the affidavit. Are you able to check the status online..like what you're missing? I think I did see something like that.

I know it's not Dallas but we'll make Temple fun! lol I did see Pecan Pointe but since I wasn't sure how all my funds would be (still thinking like a broke nursing student..lol), I didn't even contact there. Instead, I'm at Chappell Hill. I heard from a friend who's already at S&W that they were nice and they looked nice on the website. I also checked out apartmentratings.com..lol! And it fared well there. So, while I'm already signed up and ready to move in sight unseen..I'm pretty confident about it. Haven't signed the lease (will do when I move in) but I will see the place when I go in for my physical and turn in my new hire work. If I don't like it then, I'll just sign for a 6 month lease and keep it moving! lol!

I think there is some kind of way to check if you have everything in because our department head was able to check supposedly. I don't know how to do it. Chappell Hill was actually one of my top picks originally but they said they wouldn't have any one bedrooms available until July or August...can't wait that long. And I was so impressed by Pecan Pointe that I didn't even look at Chappell Creek. Oh well! It wasn't meant to be for me I guess. I think I'll be pretty happy at Pecan Pointe though...hopefully! :)

Im at Chapel Creek across the street, hehe. Love the one I found.

Redraider1977, when do you start orientation?! I start on June 20th!

I'm sure you will be! I haven't even seen Chappell Hill yet, except online! LOL! I'll be able to view the apartment before I move in when I come down literally for 24 hours about a week before I start (to do the physical and hand in my new hire paperwork). The assistant manager literally had something come in the morning after I emailed her..very last minute. She said I was VERY lucky and I believe I was because the other places I wanted, there was nothing available! But, Chappell Hill was your favorite? I'm hoping that's a good sign!

And I heard great things about Pecan Pointe and I had checked out the website. It looks great! I think we'll all be pleased! :)

I think Redraider starts on the 20th with us!

Lol, enjoy it! And I think I'll be happy pretty much anywhere as long as they don't have bugs...of any type. I don't do bugs! Lol!

Update:

so Scott & White never called me :( however, I did get a call from Metroplex in Killeen and landed a job in their progressive care unit. I will also be able to pick up/float to ICU. I'm very excited for this opportunity! :yeah:

Congrats!!! Things always work out.

Thank you!

Specializes in ICU.

Gonna be at S&W with you guys, ICU starting June 6th

Got offered the Metroplex progressive care position, but declined it even though it would have been a shorter commute (live in copperas cove). It's basically plain med surge and that is not what I wanted to do.
