3 Science classes, will it be too much?

Published

The nursing program I am going to apply for in community college suggest that we might need to take the science before getting in.

So, I am planning to take A&P2, Micro Biology, Chemistry101 for nest semester. Is there somebody who did same thing? How was that? Please give me any advices! I will appreciate it!

I plan on taking Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Pharmacology in the Spring if my advisor will sign off on it. It is only 12 hours but a very hard 12 hours. Also the last classes left to be accepted into the Paramedic/LPN to RN Bridge.

To be able to pull this off, you would need A LOT of time on your hands. I've known people to take 2 science classes at once and be successful, but I don't know anyone who has taken 3. My opinion is that you should take A&P and Micro together next semester and take Chem in the summer (I'm assuming you are talking about taking these classes next semester...). All if these classes require a lot of study time. And most nursing majors I know, myself included, seem to have the hardest time with Chem. I took Chem with no other science classes and I'm soooo glad I did. If you want A's, I would highly recommend taking only 2 science classes at a time. Unless you have a lottttt of time on your hands. Just my opinion!

I took A&P I & micro together. It was super difficult, my micro prof was REALLY hard & if I could do it all over again I wouldn't take any science together. But if you do, only take 2. Do not take any more & expect to do a lot to studying. Good luck!

If you are strong in that area and you don't work you should be OK. If you don't have a MINIMUM of 6 hours a day to dedicate to all three classes (sometimes more) including going to class I wouldn't recommend it. I am taking A&PII, English Lit, Spanish and Math and I am having a hard time keeping up with all of the work. Every time I turn around something else is due or another test is happening.

A&P is like taking two classes. There is the lab portion and the lecture portion and you are tested in both and there is A LOT of material to know.

Just my two pennies :-)

Micro made me want to cry, I would not have been able to handle it will other sciences. Even though I am stellar at science from what my professors have said.

also, the school I attend will not let you take classes together.

It is

Bio 210 (AP1)

Bio 211(AP2)

Bio 225(Micro)

My school does not require chemistry.

I am taking A&P II and Micro together right now and it is tough. I am also taking 3 other classes but they are nonscience classes. My advisor advised against taking 2 sciences together but I had to. For the past 6 weeks I have had a test either in lecture or lab and will continue to do so for the next 3. Then I think I get a week break from testing and then finals. I have an A in both classes but I do study. Micro has come pretty easily to me but for me A&P II has been a little tougher. It depends how much time you have to devote to studying.

Sorry to high jack the thread but how many hours do you spend studying for A&P II and Micro? I plan on taking these two together next semester and I'm afraid of taking on too much.

I took my science classes one at a time. I have no doubt I could have pulled off taking some of them together because I don't work outside of the home. I just plain didn't want to put myself through that. Mostly, I was afraid of how it would affect my GPA. If you have time to study and the drive to do it, I'm sure you can. But man, that will be some semester...

I have had many instructors tell me that you shouldn't try to take more than 2 science classes that have labs together, because it's too much information. However, you might be able to pull it off. Personally, I wouldn't risk it, because i'm too paranoid. lol

Plan on a minimum of 4 hours per day (7 days a week) for the two combined. Depending on how much you pay attention to lecture and if you retain what you learned you may have to spend more time. That includes class time. AP is a jealous subject and it requires a TON of your time. There is a lot to be learned and memorized.

I have 2 kids and don't work outside the home. I'm in my senior year of a BSN program. I would never take those 3 classes in one semester. If you don't have work or kids, no biggie. But if you do, you'll struggle to keep up in classes you need As in.
