Graduated in 2012, passed crne a year later and i'm finding it extremely hard to find employment. has nyone had similar experience? can you offer some advice?
I live in Toronto and I've been applying for RN posting since I got news in July of my passing. Are there any RNs on here who live in Toronto that can offer me some help? Resources? Places where I should apply? I'm on the cusp of homelessness and I feel like I've exhausted all the job search resources I know of.
Any advice or help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks

I'm sorry to hear that! I can't offer much except well wishes... I'm from the east coast & know little about Toronto. I do know there is a great demand for RNs in Halifax, NS!
Good luck!

I was in the same boat at as you awhile ago. Graduated 2011 passed CRNE exam and after a one year temp position at a local hospital. I could find nothing for 8 months. I live in Toronto and was willing to relocate. I did everything I could possibly think of , reconnected with old professors to help them critique my résumé, started taking extra courses for coronary care and ACLS. Whatever you do don't give up. Going back to do some courses (rnao will help fund this if your unemployed) helped me started landing interviews. One hiring manager said it shows initiative that you want to keep your education current. I worked for several agencies in Toronto as an agency nurse until I landed full time permanent( yes I was always getting called off last minute and called to work with VERY little notice, but I needed the experience). Good luck and don't give up!! I almost did literally and now I'm thankful I didn't. Also if you haven't tried, unemployment centers offer tons of resume help and networking/ interview tips.

I live in Niagara and lots of young girls have relocated or commute here for work.

Leave Toronto. Far too many grads being pushed out over there competing for minimal jobs. Living costs have become ridiculous out there, too. Try Hamilton, Niagara, or the other direction like Barrie, further North. I find the further from Toronto you go, the higher the wages are, the lower the living costs.

Hello. I'm sorry to hear you're not having much luck with job searching. I'm a recent graduate and I was lucky to be hired for a full-time position prior to graduation and writing the CRNE. I'll have to agree with the previous comments re: finding jobs in the GTA. It is MUCH easier to find a position in the GTA as many new grads, IENs, etc flock to Toronto in pursuit of a job. Those that are lucky to land a position are only given OPT/PT (rarely have I heard of a new grad getting full-time permanent in TO). Try broadening your horizons and see where that takes you!
I went on their site but they need someone with a minimum of 1 year experience.... all i have is academic experience.
Hey thanks for the info... i think it would be an excellent idea to take some courses and show initiative, maybe it'll help keep me in the competition. i only have ACLS and wouldn't mind taking other courses. You mentioned RNAO helping fund some courses? can you give me more info on this? where can I get some more info?

Even if they ask for 1yr experience, apply anyway. They may be willing to take a chance on you.
