Ok we all have our parents that make you go HMMMMM.....

This is a shout out to those parents who you really appreciate!

1) The parent that drops of medication paperwork and action plans before school starts, and has back up meds there on the first day.

2) The parent whose child sustains a concussion out of school and STILL shares that information, especially when they are an athlete in season.

3) The parent who fills in the health update paperwork completely, with both the child's name and (I have 2 blank forms on my desk- I have no idea who the child or the parent is) the parent's signature is which is legible.

4) The parent who tells that kiddo to pretty much suck it up when they want to be dismissed for no apparent medical reason.

5) The parent who listens when you suggest their kid may need counselling and or drug testing, and then follows through.

I could go on, but the parent who called me regarding their child's concussion is my most favorite today!!!!

My sickie kids' parents, who share with me not only their kids' struggles at home, but their own frustration- it makes me feel trusted, and gives me better insight.

Thank you!!!

Chocolate. Good to know

I surprised my son's nurse today with an early refill. As she was on the phone with a parent begging for an allergy action plan & epipen for a student (at least my state allows for stock epi and standing protocol)

ooh! we actually have parents listening?!! So to that i'll add (in the same line as JustBeachy's post) Parents that get medication orders in in the beginning of the year (standing things that we pretty much know will be renewed - epipens, inhalers) rather than expecting us to remind them. I sent you your reminder - I mailed it in June! You brought it to me in over the summer or on the first day of school - you are the best!!!

Wow...I wish I had parents like these

My son was diagnosed in June. She had all the papers in her hands 2 days later at sports physicals including clearance for PE and sports. With other parents in ear shot & the HS nurse at her side she was loud & obnoxious stating "oh this is wonderful, you have made my job so much easier. These forms are complete and dated through next June. I wish more parents followed district guidelines. Oh look Mrs. T the action plan is even signed on both sides so he can self carry!" I tried not to laugh. I knew she was going to do that. ;) if one parent got the message it was a wonderful idea.

Parents who understand that I am always swamped and not just waiting to hand out ice packs, Parents who get it when I tell them that Mary has been to my office 4 times this week for something new each day and have a talk with them about going to the Nurse's office needlessly! I know I had to have this conversation with my youngest.

On the electronic paperwork I know both my kids' school nurses love it that when I get home from the Dr for their physicals each summer, I scan them in and email them off to them. I love it too because now I have it on my computer should I need it again during the year.
