I use either eBay, Half.com, or Amazon.com for my books. And I use the ISBN number from the back of the book. It is similar to the serial number and that it is unique to that particular item. I saved $115.00 last semester buying my books.

If you can't find them on the above addresses, then definitely Barnes and Noble is the best deal. I bought all my books from B&N and with my membership saved 10%, PLUS there was no tax, PLUS I got free shipping to my door!! Can't beat that, especially when you figure out how much all those darn books weigh!! You also might want to try some block 4 students and see which ones they want to part with, as long as the book or edition hasn't changed.
Don't go overboard on the recommended books though, there were several I bought (and even some required books) that I've never even cracked open, what a waste of money!! Unfortunately you don't figure out which ones you don't need until you're in the program!!
Good luck with everything, make sure you clean your house really well and stock up on food before you start, 'cause once you're in you won't have time!!...:monkeydance:

Ditto that! My book list, if purchased at the college bookstore would have been about $1200. Barned and Noble had everything in stock, and with my membership saved me about half of that of the college bookstore. They delivered it to my door within three days. Being a B&N member paid for itself just in that one order.

Barnes & Nobles hands down. I have the membership and the credit card. The credit will even pay for your membership because once you sign up, you'll receive a 25 dollar gift card. Using the credit card also gets you 5% back on purchases made online or in the store. After spending a certain amount, you will get another 25 dollar gift card. So membership, free shipping, and credit card cash back , all add up to a lot of savings. Not having to go to the School Bookstore and fight crowds, lug heavy books, and leave all of your money at the store, Is priceless.

I use eBay and Amazon. I LOVE international editions as they are usually the same as North American editions (save for the cover and some of the first pages that state they are an international edition). When you buy an international edition, make sure you are getting the book in color and in hardcover (or softcover) and that the price is significantly below the North American edition price. --One book that I ordered came from Singapore in two days at significant savings and with a nominal shipping fee --way better savings and shipping time compared to some North American editions from U.S. sellers that I bought at the same time.
Amazon is good as they will handle problems from their sellers. I have bought textbooks from them that have been represented as U.S. editions when they were not. The price was too high for them as an international edition. Because the books were misrepresented, Amazon stepped in and assisted me with resolving the matter. (I sent back one book, and negotiated a new price on another.)
It is very rare that I buy a full-price American textbook edition on Amazon. I disagree with other posters that Barnes and Noble offers good prices --even with the discount options.

What you are saying is true. However, the poster asked about the school bookstore vs Barnes&Nobles. Also, I have found many International Textbooks with the phrase "Not for Sale in the USA or Canada". My Hubby buys many of his engineering books this way. I prefer not to get involved in legally gray areas.

Our school has posted our fall book list early. While researching prices I discovered that Walmart.com has many of the new books that I need and for a significant savings. Shipping is only 95c. I am just waiting to verify the last few ISBN numbers before ordering. I never would have thought of Walmart for text books!
