I graduated on May 12th and it's been a LONG wait for the state to finally issue authorization to test with Pearson. July 7th at 8 AM is the big day.
Our nursing program gave each graduating nurse a scholarship "gift" of the Kaplan 4-day NCLEX prep. I've been doing practice Q-Bank questions nearly every day. So far, I'm doing pretty well on the trainers & Q-Banks. I simply cannot wait to get this over & done with. I have a job lined up and I cannot start until I pass the NCLEX, per their policy.
Anyone else taking their exam next week?
Willow:Girlfriend! CONGRATUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULATIONS!
Soprano and Zee are jumping up thru the roof. :) It is just that all three of us, started here together tightly freaking out for each other!
It was "on the same note" adventure :)))))))))))))))))YAY
Soprano!!!!!!!!!!!Willow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes! I'm ECSTATIC that we made it through together....YAY!!!!!!!!!!! I've been through such a range of emotions today. We did it, ladies :D
Update:I have just received my application for license letter!
I just have to fill it out , then pay 50$, and wait for my license to arrive.
I was thinking about getting into home health............anyone else would like to share ideas about future career?
I was able to get hired in to the nurse residency program at the hospital where I had my clinicals. Just waiting for my license # so I can start. If the BON updates my info with my license # before the 22nd, I'll be able to start on July 27th. I'll be in a critical care unit, which was my favorite unit in clinicals. I *loved* the nurses on that unit, they were wonderful! After I work in critical care for 2 years, I can get in to the ER fellowship program. The hospital is a level 1 trauma center and my goal is to be an ER nurse there. Very exciting!!! Plus, I'll start my BSN classes in January.

Yep! I have been through the FULL range of emotions today. I just want to give you all a HUGE GIANT HUG! It has honestly been great to have you ladies to go through this together with, thank you for being such amazing support!
And congrats to everyone again that has passed so far, and good luck to those that are waiting/testing soon! Hang in there, you're not alone!

Congrats on your job Soprano, that's AMAZING! I'll also be starting on a critical care unit.
Zee, I went the nurse residency route as well. I applied to some non-residencies as well, but ended up accepting the residency position that was offered to me because it was the unit I wanted, and residencies also generally offer a longer orientation/more support for new graduates. Here's two links that I found helpful when trying to figure out where to apply:

Also, if your university has something akin to "career services," definitely utilize these free resources if you have access to them. I got a lot of help with my cover letters and resume. And during the summer, it's pretty easy to get an appointment anytime.
Edit: I wanted to add that I think home health is a great option! I just don't have a lot of advice to give on it because I have zero experience with it or how to go about getting into it.
Hi everyone, just got my results and found out I passed too!!! I tested July 7th at 2pm and woke up this morning and saw my name on the California BRN website (so less than 48 hours, which is great for CA!)Definitely don't recommend sitting for the NCLEX without studying haha I nearly had a panic attack when I left my house en route to test center and thought to myself ARE YOU INSANE?!?! YOU SHOULD HAVE STUDIED!!!
But apparently what they taught us in school was enough, and I'm kinda glad I didn't spend money or my time I have spent vacationing since I graduated May 22nd studying for hours instead. But HUGE PROPS to all of you that were dedicated enough to do so!!
My test stopped at 75, finished in 60 minutes, and left feeling confident that I FAILED because I got drilled on tough OB questions and about 18 SATA. No med calculations but DON'T FORGET YOUR 24 HOUR FLUID INTAKE CALCULATION (mine was tricky and had tricky liquid/foods in it!!)
Anyway, congratulations to everyone!! Hard work pays off!! Congrats fellow RN's!!!
Ana Maria Duarte, RN, BSN (haha sorry, I had to!!)
Congratulations, Ana!!!! Isn't it great to be able to put RN after your name???
