went through the orientation and some other required training and i feel i cannot do this new job i have been excited about... i can't say to much because people will figure it out where it is when they read it.. i can go back to my old job without a problem.. have you ever decided after orientation you made a mistake and can't do the job? how did you tell the manager? i'm dissapointed because i thought this was my niche... i feel guilty telling the manager after all the orientation and training... tell me your stories and what you said to the manager when you deicded it wouldn't be right for you... thank you all in advance...

I just went thru this. Was hired and went thru 2 months of orientation and just knew that I wasn't a good fit. I HATED it and it was causing a great deal of anxiety. I didn't have another job lined up, but finally worked up the courage to tell my direct supervisor that I was not a good fit. Surprisingly, she agreed with me and offered to talk to HR about me so that I could find another job in the organization. She did, HR called me and talked to me, I had an interview today (on a floor I think I am going to love) and will find out next week.
Would it be possible for you to transfer to a different area? (couldn't tell if you work in a hospital from your post) I think it is best to be truthful now, before you spend more time there. They may not be happy but you can't be miserable. Just make sure to do it professionally and not complain so you don't burn any bridges.
Good luck :)

Have you given yourself enough time? It is easy early on to feel like it's never going to work, even after a while there are days when you question what you are doing. I've come to the conclusion that nursing is not the golden job I had envisioned. If you felt this might be your niche that maybe you should try to ride it out for a little and see if you feel differently. What exactly is it you don't like? The actual job or the environment in which you have to do it?
lola you made me feel sooo much better... yes i want to go back to my old hospital job .. i went through the training and got a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach i know it's not for me..i called my old manager and she said i could have my job back but i can't do anything until HR comes back on monday .. the other job dosen;t know yet because i need to be sure i can transfer right back or if i have to wait 3 mos.. it's all in the same company .. ooh i feel guilty because i thought i would like it now i just don't feel right about it.. thank you Lola for sharing with me ,,
yes minnie it's the way the facility is run.. i have been a nurse for 25 years and went through the orientation and just had a bad feeling from things that were said to me.. i can't get into details because someone could figure it out where it was.. i just know from the training thats not what i want to do.. the hospital is run poorly and management is not on their toes...i wish i could tell you everything... i just have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach

I was recently in the same situation. I went thru orientation & got a bad feeling about the whole organization, but I tried to stick it out because the money was great. Well, I lasted about a month on the floor & decided this place is nuts & my stress level was taking a toll on my family. If I was the sole provider for my family, then I might have tried harder, but I'm lucky my husband works too. I really think sometimes ya gotta listen to your gut. Good luck to ya.

how do i say this job is not for me??
1)First make sure your old job will REALLY be there for you.
2)Repeat after me - "This job is not for me. I need to go back to my old job."

This is also the "work version" of the old line "It's not you, it's me" when breaking off a relationship.
Saying "This is not as much of a fit as I thought it would be" is also truthful and a safe comment.

I think you know pretty quick if the job is not for you!
I hated a new job when I started it back in october last year I was very miserable but we lost the contract and I moved to a different facility within the company and I loved the job again! I had to work until I found a new job because my DH was still looking for a new job and we had no back up money. I wanted to cry every morning i went to work. So you have all my sympathies

Honest and simple works for me.

I've heard cussing everyone out, grabbing a couple beers and then activating/using an inflatable slide works pretty well.
