San Jacinto College ADN Fall 2009

Published

Hi everyone. Im wondering if any of you are planning on applying to San Jac ADN program or are in the program?

Lets talk about it here

Yay for dot connecting. I still haven't ordered mine. Haven't found the money yet. I won't be too sad if I don't get the ones I want. I'm sure they'll drill it into our heads.

Be glad when I finish turning in all my stuff to the nurses office. I need to just forget about school for the next couple of weeks. Driving me insane at the moment.

I bought the pharm cards on Amazon for $20. Right now I'm just trying to understand how all the A&P and micro info is connected to the pharmacology side. I also need to review all the medical terminology that was crammed into my brain in the past 6 mos

My cards are called "Pharm Phlash" by Valerie I. Leek.

Haha, yeah I remember taking my medical terminology class and just sitting there bewildered. It definitely takes time to think with those words. Pretty soon it will be your primary vocabulary.

Makes for fun conversations with non-medical people : D

i never even took a medical terminology class.. hmm...

Well this one was for the surgical technology program. I really think they should make a class for those interested in the medical field, because it really puts you ahead as far as learning things.

I figure some of our time in the first semester is going to be terminology, because they have to know that some people are just getting their first taste of all that. But a terminology class (a dedicated one) is definitely helpful.

WOWZAS. surgical technology...seems interesting...

why did you change to wanting to be a nurse?

It was okay, but I wanted more patient interaction. A surgical technologist (or scrub, you'll hear that term thrown around too) just seems disconnected from the patient. They're busy getting all the surgical instruments ready while the patient is being prepped. Just not my cup of tea.

Helped prepare me for the medical field though, so I can't say anything bad about it.

Are surgical techs a harder job than nursing??

That may be a silly question, but i don't know all about surgeons..

Or what you have to really do..

To me, not really. They don't have to learn the amount of stuff that nurses do. I'd say overall, it's easier, but not the easiest.

Got an email about the orientation....box lunches, they make it sound so appealing. I need to go turn my papers in to the nursing office, just waiting on my CPR class. Just ready to get this stuff over with so we can start. Can one of the current or past nursing students answer a question.....which hospitals does san jac send their students to for clinicals. I know they send them to Memorial Hermann Southeast, just don't know any other location and I'm curious how far we may have to drive. Thanks.

At orientation we were told that they could send us anywhere from Baytown to Sugarland to the Katy area. I would rather drive a longer distance to learn at a more reputable hospital.
