People just don't care and they just don't get it.

I have worked in Trauma centers that the staffing isn't 4:1 on nights...more like 6:1

It would not surprise me if anyone on the panel that has the capability to make change are completely ignorant of the scenario that the charge nurse just described. They will not get it until they or one of their close family members is placed in the predicament described above.

Because health care in the USA is largely about money,rather than about care and outcomes.

Sure, the doctors and nurses and other professionals care about the outcomes and the delivery of care, but they are not the business managers of the institutions and businesses that are providing the acute, long term, or outpatient care; generally speaking.
And that nurse was working in a trauma unit. I have heard hospitals are closing them b/c they lose $$$.
I hope that RN doesn't lose her job for speaking out.

It's certainly happened before.
TPTB don't appreciate the public airing of ideas that may interfere with their agendas.
The system is broken.
And preparation... and restraint... and passion.
