Samuel Merritt University ABSN Spring 2021

Published

Hello!

I didn't see a thread for the SMU absn Spring 2021 cohort so I just wanted to start one!

I'm currently in the process of applying right now and working on my personal statements!

Hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time!

Has anyone tried signing up for the HESI A2 exam yet? I made an account on Elsevier and followed the instructions on SMU's website on how to register for it, but when I try to register for remote testing, it says not available? Even after I put in that school code... Has anyone registered successfully for it??

I haven’t signed up for a particular date, but when I registered for the website it went well!
btw did ----------------------------- reply to you? For extension

@NurseAbs congrats! I also got in! I just wish the classes were not online. I prefer to sit in the classroom!

To those reapplying, do you need to request official transcripts again through NursingCAS or not anymore if the application is copied from the last application?

I haven’t emailed her yet.. can someone email her please?? I asked her about one of my transcripts but I think it’s weird to ask for an extension when I still have questions regarding my Spring app ?

I already emailed her. Just waiting for a response. Worse is a no right?
I would say email her too, since more the merrier

I am honestly still really shocked that I didn’t even make the waitlist.... Thought I would at least have a number on there.

I felt I had good letters of rec, even got one from a RN. My GPA is not bad. And have 2-3 years of medical experience, working daily with MDs and RNs. Thought my statement was well written too? I’m wondering maybe they saw an error or something.

@klk1333

  • Nursing Prerequisites GPA: 3.8
  • Last 60 Credits GPA: 3.7
  • 3 months of healthcare experience as a hospital volunteer
  • I also have 10 Ws on my transcripts, but they are over 8 years old.

I also didn’t get in or on the waitlist. Which to me was surprising...I thought my grades were decent and I have 3 years of medical experience.....oh well. I thought I would have made the waitlist too.  I will email someone else and ask too.

I was in the similar boat as you so I emailed a BSN counselor to ask for feedback on my application and was told they cant give specifics regarding my app. The only advice I was given is to make sure I meet the minimum requirements and apply again. (After I already told this person in my previous email my stats and how shocked I was). Came across as if my first email wasn’t even read to its entirety and they just don’t care to help guide people. Which they are probably fielding emails from multiple highly qualified confused candidates, but come on?! Be a little nice and cordial about it. So just wanted to let you know so you don’t get your hopes up. I’m pretty sure if the BSN counselors won't or “can’t” help, its the same for ABSN.

Hi!

So I was accepted into the program (the wait was unbearable) and am now getting a bit more information about the program. It looks like some classes online, some labs in session, and clinicals where they need to be.

Don't give up everyone! I had NO volunteer experience in the medical field and I still got in. Not everyone can afford to volunteer, so I do believe that they look at EVERYTHING, especially those LOR. I still believe they are sending out acceptance emails- hopefully good news come tomorrow!

I hope it's okay to ask but do you already working in the medical field? My GPA is high, I had great references but the only thing I was missing was volunteer exp.

My stats are a 3.7 overall GPA, 3.8 science GPA, finished all pre-reqs before application, 3+ years as an MA, 2.5 years volunteering for a medical charity foundation and have been their coordinator for multiple medical missions, and interned with UCSF last year. Had a CRNA, RN, MD, and previous teacher write my LORs.

Didn't even get waitlisted... I have talked to Anne and she has no idea as to why I was rejected, she said my grades, experience, etc are very solid. Re-applying to Oakland since its her campus anyway!

Hope to experience this anxiety rollercoaster again with some of you!

Congrats to everyone who got in and/or waitlisted! You all will become outstanding nurses!! Rooting for you!

@djpa2 wow your application is really strong! Good luck to you !

Hi everyone. I was waitlisted at #7 this app cycle. Obviously there's no way of telling since every cycle is different but how strong do you guys think my chances are of getting off the waitlist? Also, does anyone know if the school actually takes the top 3 people off the waitlist and automatically grants them a seat in the next cohort? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you! ?
