Samuel Merritt University ABSN Spring 2021

Published

Hello!

I didn't see a thread for the SMU absn Spring 2021 cohort so I just wanted to start one!

I'm currently in the process of applying right now and working on my personal statements!

Hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time!

I am going to. I think the more applicants that do, the better. I spoke to a counselor today who said there could be a possibility but she hasn’t heard of anything.
Also, I did not get in. Huge bummer but I prepared for the disappointment as best I could. Going to do my best to get an application in for the 12/1 deadline but hoping the school extends the deadline.

Does anybody know if there are San Mateo applicants (who got in) turned down their offer? Just to see what could be the odds for the waitlisted applicants.

Hey @klk1333! I think I need to also speak with a counselor to see how to improve my application.

Who did you speak with? if you don't mind me asking? I can't find contact info on their website for their counselors.. Thanks!!

I also didn’t get in or on the waitlist. Which to me was surprising...I thought my grades were decent and I have 3 years of medical experience.....oh well. I thought I would have made the waitlist too.  I will email someone else and ask too.

It's really hard to tell what admissions look for. It seems like a lot of qualified people didn't make the cut. I'm assuming they were bombarded with so many applications, causing some well deserving apps to be overlooked. But at the end of the day it is really out of our hands! Did you have any classes in progress? If your grades are good enough I would suggest looking over your personal statement and carefully choosing your letters of rec. That's what I'll be doing for next application. Good luck!

Thank you! Yes, I had 2 classes in progress.

Dang, looks like they changed the prompts for Samuel Merritt... I hate writing!

HEYYYYYY!

I have been waitlisted for SM, number 4 of 30. Received an email from SMU at 3:30 PM this afternoon. Just checked the portal which still says the application is under review.

wow! You are so close!!

I also received waitlist notice. I am 22 out of 30.

Specializes in Nursing.

Does anyone know if the classes will be held online or in person ?

@hmtool congratulations! that’s amazing! Can you share your application stats? (If you don’t mind:)

Has anyone tried signing up for the HESI A2 exam yet? I made an account on Elsevier and followed the instructions on SMU's website on how to register for it, but when I try to register for remote testing, it says not available? Even after I put in that school code... Has anyone registered successfully for it??

Hi!

So I was accepted into the program (the wait was unbearable) and am now getting a bit more information about the program. It looks like some classes online, some labs in session, and clinicals where they need to be.

Don't give up everyone! I had NO volunteer experience in the medical field and I still got in. Not everyone can afford to volunteer, so I do believe that they look at EVERYTHING, especially those LOR. I still believe they are sending out acceptance emails- hopefully good news come tomorrow!
