Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a thread for the Spring 2021 term at SMU. Has anyone applied or planning on applying? Feel free to drop your stats and scores!

When you log onto nursingcas does it say that your application is verified? If it does then you have nothing to worry about. They must go through all of the verified applications. I have not received an email yet either. If we do not get anything by tomorrow I am going to assume there has been another delay. As I mentioned earlier, Shawna said that none of the applications will move forward until all of the verified ones have been processed. Most likely they need more time.

I don't think you should be worried. As long as NCAS says your application is verified, your application will be reviewed. If you don't receive a preliminary email by 10/2 OR an email saying they need more time to review applications, then I think you should reach out. I don't think there is a specific order they are following. My last name starts with an H, I submitted my app a month before the deadline, and my application is verified but have yet to get my prelim email. You can see if your application is verified on NCAS, if it's verified it will be reviewed no matter what. If for whatever reason your application is not verified and you don't move forward, I'm sure SMU will reach out and let you know! Just stay positive ?

Thanks all for the feedback! I have confirmed that my application is "verified" on NCAS. Will just have to patiently wait :)

Hello all,

Another question here. Does SMU take the highest grade received if a class is taken a second time? Trying to raise my science GPA so before I enroll in classes I wanted to double check. Thank you

Yes they do take the highest grade.. I had a C in anatomy and a C in Chemistry,  Shawna was aware that I was applying and recommended that I either retake the chem class or the anatomy class to raise my GPA. I decided to take the anatomy class because I felt that it was most important and plus I needed some reiteration in that class so I re took it and received an A... hopefully this helps!!

No email yet.. I'm just hoping if this phase is delayed that the November 10th deadline is not delayed along with it ?

They were already giving themselves a week less time... (initially was from September 1 to October 15, now say October 2 to November 10. So if it's delayed again, how are they going to get through twice as many applications in half the time?). I'm honestly not at all confident in them. I also haven't received my email yet.

Have you guys applied to anywhere else? I'm curious to see if other schools are dealing with similar issues or this is just a SMU problem. Being a private school I assumed they would have more resources to deal with a larger application pool. Technically its not even that large when you compare to the state schools..

I applied to Dominican as well. I emailed them last week and they told me that they are staying on track with processing the applications. They are supposed to email their decisions by the end of October. But we’ll see ??‍♀️

Hey Phoebe, I applied to Dominican as well. Thanks for the info, so they said we should be hearing back at the end of October? Did they give you a date?

Heyyy! No they just said that it’s gonna be at the end of this month. They also told me it’s gonna be about 30 spots
