Hello! I just wanted to make a thread specifically for those who are applying to the Samuel Merritt ABSN for a spring 2017 start. I'm applying to start in April 2017. It's the only program I'm applying to, as I can't afford more than a year without an income and I really want a BSN and not an MSN at this time. I'm done with my application, just waiting for nursing CAS to verify all my transcripts before I click submit! Currently working full time and taking my last 3 pre recs online. What about you?
Hi Nathalie513,
thanks do much for the heads up. I called Derric about the waitlist process and I am still confused about that waitlist. Is is only ONE waitlist for the three cohorts? I was so anxious I might not have understood him correctly but it seems there is only one list for the 3 Summer cohorts, is it right? I can't believe I am #31 on the list, it seems quite impossible I will get a spot for the summer cohort. What do you guys think about that? They offered me a seat for the september cohort in Sacramento, but I have two little kids and I am divorced. I"ll take Sacramento Bc I am desesperated to get in but I don't know what I would do with my kids!! :-O any ideas please??
Oh I didn't know the registration starts tomorrow! I am waitlisted but I don't know how that works. If it's only one list for 3 cohorts ( Summer) or only for my first choice. I saw students saying here that SMU gave them a seat in a second choice. I am very anxious and chew almost all my nails and haven't been sleeping too! I can imagine how you are feeling!

I don't know if this will bring relief or not, but since people seem yearning for info about the waitlists and how they operate, I can put in my two cents. I only put down that I wanted Oakland, and didn't put a 2nd or 3d choice. When I got my letter, it said, "Congratulations, but..." and they explained that they know I didn't put San Mateo down, but that they can offer me a spot there. (Which I thought was really nice since I was kicking myself for only putting Oakland.) Then they explained that should something else open up at the Oakland Campus, there was a possibility that they might offer me a spot then. But I have to accept San Mateo first, which I happily am doing.
I also know that there are folks who also applied for the ELMS program, and they should probably be hearing soon about their status. At that point some of them who got into both might choose ELMS, which would open up spots in the ABSN. Just my intuition, but I think a LOT of shifting around is bound to happen. Keep hope alive.
Cathy that is such a tough position. I would seriously do anything to go to nursing school but for me Sacramento was out bc of my kids. We live here and they are in school here etc. if you can rent a place in sac for a year and put them in public school then maybe it could work but for me, I would simply apply again for Oakland or San Mateo and not do sac. Maybe put San Mateo first next time bc I heard that one is easier to get into. GOOD LUCK you will get there!!!!!!!

Hi Nathalie513, are you sure FAFSA won't give us a loan just because we have a bachelor degree? Where and for which rate I will get a loan? any ideas?
