  1. Level III, northern CA. Answer is LOL hell no not even close.
  2. Hi, if you work in post Partum in the bay area and your hospital Is 3:1, can you post the name Here or send me A message? 4:1 is killing me and I want to Make a list of all the 3:1 hospitals so I can keep my eye out for Openings. Thank you!
  3. Hi I am wondering if anyone has any information or sources they can share in the Interpretation of 22 CCR 70217 as it applies to mom baby nursing. Specifically- can they staff us with 2 couplets and 3 moms? Management says it’s OK because we only have 7 patients total and section 70217 doesn’t spell out the answer. Wondering if anyone has any case law or administrative decisions address this issue. Thanks.
  4. Hi, I’m going to send you a message!
  5. Are you a lawyer? I was too :). It’s a big change. 12 weeks doesn’t sound like enough L&D training to me for a new grad.
  6. Nights felt totally fine to me working a 12 hour shift. Honestly when I got off at 0630 it was still dark and I was so tired I fell right asleep. I put 3 in a row and when I got off after the last shift just napped for a few hours then went to bed at normal time that nights and thus was back on my regular schedule for the 4 days off. I do think 8s would be way harder. Working “only” nights is definitely the way to go, switching back and forth is hard. You want to get into a routine. Good luck!
  7. Hi everyone, I am a new graduate and I have accepted a position in L&D which I am super excited about, because it is my dream specialty! However, I am starting to feel nervous as I have been out of nursing school job hunting and working in a non nursing job for more than six months. Can anyone recommend a series of videos I can watch to reinforce the basics of L&D and PP? I am happy to pay for online content, but what I really want is videos that I can just play over and over while I do things around the house until I begin - I am not wanting to get CLEs or be required to pay for any tests or anything. I have googled a lot but the only things that are coming up seem to be geared toward how to prepare for an interview as a new grad. I am really looking for a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of maternity nursing. Thanks for any ideas.
  8. hey i'm about the same age and same area. tbh you're lucky to get any job as a new grad in the bay area. once you have a job in acute care, you are MUCH more likely to get a job in L&D. just apply to anything that's acute care, i think if you're tunnel visioned on L&D, you're actually going to end up taking a lot longer to get to L&D.
  9. Hey! I got there now and haven't been able to take on much part time work, however my part time job is writing/analyzing and my mind is too tired. I know people who have kept jobs as unit clerks, servers, etc. I think if you don't have to do a bunch of writing it could work but it's hard. There's something to do almost every day and then on top of that you have to study. Every week you have at least one exam, some weeks 2 or 3 exams. If you don't stay above a 72 average on your exams in every class you can't continue on in the program. It is more time consuming than I thought it would be.
  10. At orientation they told us you can't miss any clinicals even for a wedding! Have you had to miss one? Who did you speak with to get permission?
  11. Omg phew!!! That makes me feel soooo much better. Thank you :)
  12. How bad is it to miss one clinical? I'm in a friends wedding in the fall and it's on a Saturday!
  13. I'm April start San Mateo! Super excited to start and hoping everything works out for everyone on this thread too!
  14. Hey there! I'm going to Samuel Merritt Absn too so if you decide on that illl see you there! I did the math and it ended up being a lot cheaper bc I would only be unemployed for 12 months instead of 2 years (I can go back to my old job once i graduate while I look for nursing jobs). I originally applied to USF but ended up withdrawing, and now I'm following along bc I've got my fingers crossed for a friend. Good luck!
  15. That is so messed up that they made you apply again! I was admitted to Samuel Merritt last year and could not attend and received a medical deferral no problem- I am starting next month. I hope you get another acceptance!!! (And I'm following this thread bc i have a friend applying :))
