Samuel Merritt Spring 2017 ABSN

Published

Hello! I just wanted to make a thread specifically for those who are applying to the Samuel Merritt ABSN for a spring 2017 start. I'm applying to start in April 2017. It's the only program I'm applying to, as I can't afford more than a year without an income and I really want a BSN and not an MSN at this time. I'm done with my application, just waiting for nursing CAS to verify all my transcripts before I click submit! Currently working full time and taking my last 3 pre recs online. What about you?

Hey! I am applying as well, for April as first choice, June as second choice. What location are you applying for? I am almost done with my app, but just getting my references in and working on the essays. I decided to apply for this round kind of last minute, so just took the Hesi A2 this past week. Sent all my transcripts and believe they received them all at NursingCAS. Still have to take patho/pharm but doing it online to finish in 6 weeks, well before either start date, so hopefully that's ok.

Oh also if anyone knows, where are the Clinicals for the San Mateo? I saw that the April start is in SF Bay area and June start is in Peninsula/San Jose. Just wondering which particular hospitals?

Hey Duke702,

As long as you finish pharm and patho by the end of the fall semester (i.e., by the end of december 2016) then you are all good to apply for april 2017! For the san francisco bay area program (the one starting in april), the classes are in san mateo and the clinicals vary depending on what rotation you get. i believe there is one group that does kaiser, one group that does maybe cpmc, and one group that does SFGH, VA, marin general, and childrens in oakland. For the south bay program, i am not sure what hospitals the clinicals are at, but i think they extend pretty far south.

are you applying to any other programs, or just SMU?

i am applying for the san francisco bay area one (the one that starts in april).

I am just applying to Samuel Merritt's ABSN this time around. I prefer it because it is a 12 month program and I won't have to relocate. We may both be in the April class, as I would like to start sooner. Just curious where the Peninsula/South Bay clinicals are for the June start. Peninsula clinicals would be great, but not too sure about San Jose as that would be just as far/further for me than SF. Who did you get you reference letters from?

Ugh so i was confused on my application and i thought i had to wait until my transcripts were "verified" to click submit and pay. I realized today that they don't get verified until after you click submit and pay. So i submitted the app and the confirmation email said that it could take 4 weeks to complete (ie, have the transcripts verified), and it won't get submitted to SMU until it is complete, and thus that you should submit at least 4 weeks in advance of the school deadline. since i am obviously way less than 4 weeks from December 1, i don't know if i'm going to be able to apply :(. so disappointed.

i got my letters of rec from a teacher for one of my science pre recs, and from the volunteer coordinator at the hospital where i volunteer. what about you?

I'm pretty sure as long as you submit before december 1 you are fine, the verifying takes longer but as long as nursingcas has everything it's all good. I did hear/ read that somewhere. You are fine don't worry!

I am getting my references from a pre-req teacher and my current boss. Did you submit 2? I was thinking of adding a 3rd but I am not sure. Did you take the HESI A2 or TEAS? I took the HESI last week and got a 91% overall.

i submitted 2. i took both the TEAS and the HESI. i got 91% also :)

also, have you looked into loans? we can't get federal loans bc we already have a bachelors. i've never done private before. i also still have a TON of loans from my last degree. hopefully i will still be able to qualify for private loans!

Yea I have heard that about only getting private loans for this program. I have a little bit of previous loans as well, but all were federal, so no private yet either. I guess I should start looking into it.

This thread here from a couple years ago says you can get about $12,250 in a federal loan for a second Bachelor's degree. So that would be nice.

Did you fill out the Achievement/Experience section? It doesn't say required, so are we supposed to or just upload our resume instead?
